We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Elizabeth Southern. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Elizabeth below.
Elizabeth, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. So, naming is such a challenge. How did you come up with the name of your brand?
A funny story, my line sister actually came up with my business name, which is LizmadeyouLook! I wanted something cute and catchy that included my name. I had four names that I was going back and forth on but I still wasn’t completely satisfied. I asked for help from people close to me and then my line sister came up with that name and I loved it! It was fitting and unique so I went with it.
Elizabeth, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am Elizabeth, a mental health therapist with a passion for helping others feel better inside and out. When I was in graduate school, I was stressed and needed a hobby so I decided to start doing makeup. I have always loved doing my own makeup and becoming an actual makeup artist never crossed my mind until I took a virtual class in February 2022. I took the class to get better at doing my own makeup but then I decided to practice on my bestfriend, really spur of the moment, but it turned out so nice! I was like omg, I’m a makeup artist! From then on, I spent hours watching makeup videos and asking people I knew if I could practice on them. It was and still is a great way for me to express my creativeness and help other women feel beautiful. I enjoy doing natural/soft glams. I aim to enhance my client’s natural beauty by providing a skin-like finish.
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
I provide good customer service and this really helped build my clientele. I always ask for feedback after I complete a full face and if there is any part of their makeup they would like me to change, I have no problem doing it. I welcome constructive criticism and open the floor to new ideas from my clients. I aim to make getting your makeup done a relaxing experience and I value providing good customer service to everyone.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
My favorite part is meeting new people! I service people from all walks of life and I enjoy hearing their story and providing a safe space for them to talk about anything. It is so inspiring to hear women/men discuss their hobbies, passion, career goals etc. with me while getting their makeup done.
