We recently connected with Elizabeth Rowan and have shared our conversation below.
Elizabeth, appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to hear about the best advice you’ve ever given to a client? (Please note this response is for education/entertainment purposes only and shouldn’t be construed as advice for the reader)
In both lines of work as a yogi and mystical business mentor, often my best advice is to view the external — whether the physical yoga posture or the business strategy — as an experiment and a metaphor, or ritual for yourself. This might look like considering marketing through a lens of being seen and heard, and activation of your sacred voice, or viewing pricing and sales as a holy handshake and mutual commitment to transformation. There’s always much more going on than meets the eye, and both yoga and mystical business hold near-endless opportunities to revise the messaging to ourselves from what we might automatically experience and what we can reframe as an act of healing. Whether yoga or entrepreneurship, we face opportunities to activate our sacred voice, cultivate Self-leadership, strengthen self-trust, and increasingly hold it all. They’re full of invitations to go deeper within ourselves so that we can more deeply engage in the world.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
You can’t enter your light by denying your darkness. In a world riddled with eternal light, limitless love, and boundless positivity — it’s easy to think that your shadows don’t belong in your success story. But they not only belong. They push you deeper and propel you forward.
In my life, true change came from learning to trust myself, shedding rose-tinted glasses and looking at my desires, ego, shadow and soul. Instead of only making room for endless happiness, I walked into the shadows, ready to uncover what my spirit was hungry for. The more I stepped into the shadows, the easier it was to emerge into my light and ignite the fulfilling life I knew I was capable of.
My journey didn’t start as a healer but being born in New Orleans, I’ve always had a thing for embracing the dark and mystical side of life.
My career started with working long hours in the art industry: I was living in Hong Kong at the time, and pursued my first yoga teaching training there to initiate my own healing and fulfillment. I wanted to dive even deeper into the spiritual side, a life of making an impact, healing, and helping other women radically transform on a soul level.
So I left my job, moved, got a divorce, faced massive transitions, and all manner of life pivots, then alchemized them into teachings that I use to guide you as you navigate the heaviness that weighs on your heart.
With 16 years of business experience, a six-figure business and over 12 years of yoga study, teaching and experience, I combine the spiritual and the real world to help you move through both life and business.
Yoga + sacred counsel with me (1:1, special events, ritual): Navigate the dark night of the soul. When heavy sh*t like transition, transformation, grief, and loss cross your path, I’ll guide you to dig into this darkness and heal. You’ll deepen your spirituality and strengthen your reality simultaneously so you can emerge with greater clarity and a newfound sense of hope.
Mentorship with me (1:1 and group): You’ve tried it all when it comes to your business, yet the secret to growth is elusive. You’re stuck in one spot, and you sometimes want to scream into an abyss for answers. Together, we’ll dive into the shadows and build you a sustainably successful business full of impact, strategy, authenticity, and joy.
Putting training and knowledge aside, what else do you think really matters in terms of succeeding in your field?
Know who you are, how you hold yourself, who you BE when business is booming? Can you also be that person, hold your frequency, trust yourself + resist dropping from your power into panic when things get real?
That’s the mark of a CEO, and it’s a learned skill. You have to/get to cultivate it & look for mentors who do too. This is one element I learned late after years of going it alone, and want to remind you that you don’t have to.
This speaks to the TWO non-negotiables in business that I find make or break businesses here to last:
I find a successful, sustainable business is powered two ways: 1) Nervous system mastery, mature Self-leadership + commitment to your business over your bullsh*t, every single day, and 2) a circle at your back of mentors and leaders who have been there and live to tell. It’s not enough to have friends to cry to (though very important); you have to have seasoned, experienced, professional guides because you cannot do this alone.
This year is my eleventh in business, and it’s in large part because I have a powerhouse circle of mentors, network & support. Because at some point you grow beyond how-to logistics and execution, and into Self-leadership as your primary focus if you want a business that lasts, versus an expensive hobby.
That’s where I come in. My mentorship is both mystical and material, practical and magic, soul-led and strategic. We’ll change your inner + outer world!
Have you ever had to pivot?
Oh yes and haven’t we all?! When I reached the six-figure mark in my business, nothing in that moment changed — because everything changed *before* to make it happen:
Some of the shifts that rocked my business since hustling yoga classes & driving to all over Atlanta to private clients, venues and multiple studios included:
I got sick of my drama in the most loving way of calling mySelf forward from her old go-to shrink & outsource her power ways. Yes there’s comfort in the old ways; the invitation for me to discern was, is it actually comfortable or are we resisting expansion?
I invested in mentors and coaches w a mix of business know-how & spiritual + energetic context. I love a 1:1 mentor, and find so much support in a powerful group community too.
I get intimidated — intentionally & often. If I’m not, it means I’m comfortable & on autopilot — not where growth happens.
I reclaimed my power from social media, gave myself grace to use it in new ways & show up from a place of alignment, not obligation.
I refined my product suite and pricing, along w payment plans, free content & donation from my overflow to increase client options & my impact in causes far beyond business.
I decided to get out of my own way. We have to/get to make that choice every day to nurture expansion vs contraction, future vs current self, vision vs victim mode. I don’t mean bypass your humanness or muscle through; rather embrace it as integral to the human and the entrepreneurial ride.
Small, consistent shifts into greater inner power, refined clarity of purpose and defining your own forms of prosperity revolutionized my business — and not overnight. As I like to say, staying the course and committing to yourself is its own form of currency with endless ROI.
