Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Elizabeth Rivera. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Elizabeth, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Naming anything – including a business – is so hard. Right? What’s the story behind how you came up with the name of your brand?
At the time that I decided to open the bookstore, I lived in a “small town”. My daughter came up with the name Small Town Stories. We wanted the business to feel like home.
Elizabeth, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am a mother of two and wife to my amazing husband for 33 years. I began writing 25 years ago after my son suggested I write stories about The Tickle Monster. My husband’s dad used to play this game with my husband and he called it The Claw. As a family, we came up with his name and the stories are about things that happened in my life and the lives of my children. Small Town Stories is an online bookstore dedicated to Self Published Authors. I always struggled to promote my books and figured other authors were also struggling. My business began with five authors and to date, we have close to 15. Our main goal is to help authors get the word out about their books. We plan on opening a brick-and-mortar store in the future. I am not in this business alone, each author is like a partner in the company. I couldn’t do what I do without the support of my amazing authors who have stuck by me during this process.
What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
We are a bookstore, so I guess my clients would be readers. Attending vendor events and book conventions has been the best way to attract more readers. So many people like to read and keep up with new authors, and our bookstore helps them with that.
We’d love to hear about how you keep in touch with clients.
Our newsletter reaches our readers monthly, featuring an author showcase that allows them to learn about each writer. It also keeps them updated on our upcoming events and locations. We use social media to connect with readers along with our website which gets updated as needed when new authors arrive.
