Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Elizabeth Misner . We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Elizabeth , thanks for joining us today. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
I have been a ballet dancer and instructor my whole life. Like a lot of people when COVID hit, my primary focus was taken away from me. However, the life change that COVID created made way for new ideas and opportunities. My husband and I have always been passionate about food. In search of a new creative outlet, we started making charcuterie during the pandemic as a fun, social distant friendly way to connect with people and each other. Charcuterie enabled us to switch up our foods and taste flavors out of our ordinary routine. We would try a new meat every week, find a different cheese to taste, and mix and match flavor combinations. Meeting friends at a park to share charcuterie and a drink was a great COVID friendly way to enjoy company. After finding so many amazing local producers in our community, I realized that nobody was offering a paired box that highlighted the flavors we were enjoying. SavorBox gave me the opportunity to direct my passion into promoting the farmers and cheese makers we love and to facilitate togetherness.
Elizabeth , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
We work with local bakeries, cheesemakers, and butchers to make two sizes of charcuterie boxes for enjoying at home or out as well as two sizes of charcuterie cones designed for parties and larger social gatherings. We pride ourselves on using hard to find ingredients of the highest quality including a commitment to humanely raised meats, pastured dairy animals and supporting small and minority businesses whenever possible.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
We invest heavily in our relationships with our suppliers whether they are cheesemakers, butchers, or local bakeries. Our passion for this business grew out of our love for their work and SavorBox is an awesome way to celebrate their commitment to craft and quality. We think of our company as a platform for highlighting the amazing work of those around us and they’ve been incredibly gracious in response.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Early in our founding we realized as important as social media is, it is a driver of community and relationships more than sales. I think there’s an over reliance on social media to deliver willing customers and while we do see business from our social media accounts they are primarily way for us to promote our supplier partners as well as to connect with our customers and fans. It’s a really fun intersection that we think adds value to the work we put in over and above any sales that we might get as a result.
