Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Elizabeth Lee. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Elizabeth , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
I was a child actor when I was 10. I auditioned for the Sound of Music at a local dinner theater. As I am half-Chinese, my parents let me audition, thinking they would never cast me as an Austrian child. When the shock wore off that I was chosen to play a Von Trapp child, my parents battled over whether to allow me to continue. Performing on stage was a dream for nine months. It was also the first professional job of my life.
There were other opportunities that came after the Sound of Music, but my parents never allowed me to pursue acting again.
My degree is in creative writing. I pursued filmmaking and music in my 20’s. In 1996 I met my Tai Chi master. He changed my life. I dropped out of film and became a massage therapist. This was a detour down my healing path that continued for a decade. At the other end, I met my husband, moved to the ocean, studied graphic design and started painting. The creative path has been a long and winding road, but as my soul’s calling, there was never any choice.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I’m a visual artist and abstract painter with a graphic design / illustration background. I studied photography at university, so my visual education began there.
During COVID I created a Hapa Oracle deck, based on Chinese 5 Elements, Asian Archetypes and the Chinese Zodiac. I am also an Intuitive.
When I graduated with an English degree, as a passionate 20-something, I thought I would pursue filmmaking, allowing me to change the world by combine writing and photography. Filmmaking is a brutal industry. The schedule is erratic, extreme and varies from gig to gig. I was in my 20’s and my health was compromised. I met my Tai Chi master in my late 20’s. After studying with him, I abandoned filmmaking and became a CranialSacral therapist for a decade. That was the healer chapter of my life. Ultimately it led me to study meditation and became an Intuitive.
The Creator in me knew that I needed to be in a Creative career. I was studying graphic design and taking art classes while doing CranialSacral Therapy. Eventually I transitioned away from bodywork and into graphic arts. During COVID I gave myself permission to paint with abandon.

I also do Energy Readings, looking into the layers of the aura and chakras.
I love experimenting with colors. My paintings tend to be about resolving my emotions through the painting process. Collectors say my pieces make them happy, and there is something that intrigues them, that draws them in. A therapist bought one of my works to hang over her desk. She wanted it to spark conversations with her patients.
The Intuitive work I do also works with the colors of the aura. We are all, ultimately, living vibrations of light. People come to me with issues they can’t solve. When I look energetically at their chakras and aura, often there is stuck energy that isn’t theirs. It comes from their parents, their job, their relationship, or even from the news. Healing this sometimes is as simple as just speaking it aloud, but I also work with colors to move the energy.
I loved spending time in France at Chateau d’Orquevaux’s artist residency. Focusing exclusively on art-making, rather than all other life matters, was such a joy. New processes opened up for me. I had space to do the internal inquiries. I dream of being able to retreat there every year, like Georgia O’Keeffe would go to Ghost Ranch.
I believe that art is to put more love into the world. This is also what drives my Intuitive work, caring for our spirits. Raising the vibration of the planet so we can create Paradise on Earth. The Inner Light Moon Oracle deck was also created with that in mind, to redirect users to their inner wisdom and inner knowing (through Chinese 5 Elements, Asian Archetypes and the Chinese Zodiac).

Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative?
Everyone has their journey in life. Some people want the control of mapping out their life step by step. That was how I was programmed, but it never worked for me. I tried so many times to squeeze myself into that square hole, but I’m an odd-shaped peg. Or perhaps I’m not a peg at all. I do not fit. Trying to satisfy external expectations made me deeply unhappy.
I believe many artists who perceive the world in a unique way, struggle with this, never understanding that their special and unconventional approach to life is their contribution. For Artists, our genius will never fit in the box. It will only come from our internal passion and drive. Sometimes that even means creating through pain, which has often been my motivation. I create to transform myself.
I don’t think many people would understand why I stare at color most hours of the day. What captivates me, what I struggle with, is searching for harmonies and balance in those colors. Many people can’t understand what is the importance in that? Why does that matter?
People who view my paintings can also see, both the struggle and the resolution. If it is satisfying painting to them, they have shared my journey and can relate to it, because it sparks something inside of them.
My life path, step by step, has been to follow my happiness. It has steered me down a circuitous route, but it has meaning and importance to me. The Inner Light Moon Oracle was created to encourage people down this path, the path of their own consciousness and inner knowing.
Alright – so here’s a fun one. What do you think about NFTs?
The verdict isn’t out on NFT’s, as cryptocurrency isn’t mainstream, yet. It’s evolving very quickly. It’s not regulated. In 2022 OpenSea had that huge security breach, which was a red flag for me.
Art creation and art selling used to be separate domains: Artist and gallery. The artist could be open to exploitation by the gallery, but also allowed great support by the gallery to deal with many business related issues. The game has certainly changed.
We’re in a shift now. Eventually we may see more regulation around NFT’s, which will allow it to stabilize.
Personally, I don’t like it at all. I don’t like how my IG feed has been taken over by NFT hunters. I can’t even tell if they are humans or bots. However, I do see the great possibilities for artists there, if they were paid appropriately and if security was unfailing. If artists retain control of their NFT’s there’s a huge potential for those willing to go down the rabbit hole.
Business is based on trust. The problem with tech, if you cannot see the backend, where is the trust? I tried to reach out to KnownOrigin and never heard from them. It’s highly suspect, when there is no way to reach a business, but they want your art.
