We recently connected with Elizabeth Jia and have shared our conversation below.
Elizabeth, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
The most meaningful project I’ve worked on recently is an oil painting titled “世界会陷入黑暗,但总会光明灿烂,”—which translates to “The World May Fall Into Darkness, But It Will Always Shine Bright Again.” This piece was born in the quiet hours while I immersed myself in a gripping crime series, painting as the narrative unfolded.
The inspiration struck me as I reflected on the state of the world today. News headlines often carry a heavy weight, brimming with chaos and uncertainty. Yet, there’s an enduring truth: after every darkness, light inevitably emerges. The crime series I watched brought this idea to life in a profound way. Based on true events from 1990s China, it depicted a time of rampant violence—gun crimes, murders, and a sense of lawlessness. But what stood out to me wasn’t just the horrors but the progress made since. Thirty years later, advancements in technology have allowed justice to prevail, bringing closure to victims’ families and hope to communities.
This juxtaposition of despair and hope became the heartbeat of my painting. While the chaos of the world informed the context, the canvas became a space for something more transformative. The painting doesn’t mirror reality—it’s a vibrant fantasy of bold colors and fluid strokes, a visual symphony that captures beauty and resilience. It’s designed to offer a moment of peace, a clean slate for the mind, and a reminder that no matter how heavy the present feels, the future holds the promise of light.
This project holds a special place in my heart because it channels my optimism for humanity. It reflects my belief that even in our darkest moments, we can find something to hold on to—a flicker of hope, a glimpse of beauty. Through this painting, I hope to inspire others to seek out the light, however faint it may seem, and to believe in the possibility of brighter days ahead.

Elizabeth, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
Illuminating the World Through Art
At the heart of my creative journey lies a simple yet profound mission: to inspire hope, connect cultures, and celebrate the beauty of life through art. Whether through the delicate brushstrokes of traditional Chinese painting, the expressive textures of oil pastels, or the elegant forms of calligraphy, my work seeks to bridge the past and present, blending timeless traditions with contemporary narratives.
As a member of both the Chinese Calligrapher and Painters Federation and the prestigious Arts Club of Chicago, I am committed to fostering dialogue between diverse artistic traditions. My paintings and calligraphy have been showcased in museums across the United States and China, reinforcing my belief in the unifying power of art to transcend cultural boundaries.
A defining aspect of my journey is my ongoing oil pastel project, where I explore the vibrant intersection of creativity and emotion. Through 99 unique pieces, I aim to remind viewers that even in times of darkness, there is light to be found. Every stroke is a story, every color a feeling, and together, they offer a sense of beauty, peace, and hope for the future.
Ultimately, my goal is to create art that resonates deeply, encouraging others to see the world with fresh eyes and an open heart. I want my work to be a sanctuary—a place where people can pause, reflect, and discover something meaningful about themselves and the world around them. This is the driving force behind The Elizabeth Art and the passion that fuels my daily creative journey.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
Finding Connection and Inspiring Hope Through Art
For me, the most rewarding aspect of being an artist is the opportunity to connect with people on a deeply emotional level and to inspire hope, even in the face of challenges. Art is my way of sharing stories, emotions, and perspectives that transcend words and cultural boundaries. It’s incredibly fulfilling to know that my work—whether it’s an oil pastel painting, a piece of calligraphy, or a traditional Chinese artwork—can touch someone’s heart or give them a moment of peace and reflection.
Ultimately, the most rewarding part of being an artist is knowing that my creations don’t just hang on walls—they live in the minds and hearts of those who experience them. They spark conversations, evoke emotions, and perhaps, in their own small way, make the world a little brighter. That is the true gift of art.
