We recently connected with Elizabeth Jacobi and have shared our conversation below.
Elizabeth, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. So, naming is such a challenge. How did you come up with the name of your brand?
I think the name gives it away. My dog is the reason I named my consultancy MochaBear Marketing. When I started to build my consulting business, I knew I wanted a name that people would ask me about. Before I started consulting, Mocha was in doggy daycare a few days a week, and they started calling her MochaBear because she looked like a teddy bear and is super sweet. Since she would now sit by my side daily with my consultancy, MochaBear Marketing was the perfect fit!
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My career in the email marketing world happened accidentally. My first job out of college was working in the PR department for an entertainment company. I volunteered to work with the online movie critics, which wasn’t popular because print was still sexier. However, working with online movie critics and the growing digital marketing space intrigued me. From there, I spent the next 16 years working for agencies in the digital space specializing in email marketing. I started MochaBear Marketing due to my love of small businesses. I had fantasized about starting my consultancy to work with small businesses. I wanted to work with companies that most agencies passed on because they couldn’t afford the significant agency rates. I aim to take the same large brand strategies we know work and help small businesses utilize them.
My consultancy offers a comprehensive suite of services focused on every aspect of the customer journey through email marketing and SMS. It is important to me that businesses of any size can obtain the best marketing strategy.
Have you ever had to pivot?
During Covid, I did have to pivot my business, but it ended up being the best thing. Before COVID, my niche was small local businesses. However, I realized that I could expand my services beyond my immediate location using Zoom. Although I still enjoy meeting clients in person, I can achieve business growth by conducting meetings online and today have clients coast to coast.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
I found something that I loved and that I was good at. I have also kept my expertise around two digital channels (Email & SMS), and while I love all marketing and can consult on it, the bulk of my business remains with these two channels, which helps build expertise.
