At Bourgeois Wicks, we currently manage our own social media. We made this choice because we wanted to maintain a personal connection with our audience and have full control over the brand’s voice and message. So far, this approach has allowed us to be more authentic, respond quickly, and build a loyal community.
One lesson we’ve learned is the importance of consistency and engagement. It’s not just about posting content, but about interacting with followers and creating meaningful conversations. For other business owners, I’d say it’s key to understand your audience and be clear about your goals. If you’re thinking about hiring help, consider whether you want a more hands-on approach or if outsourcing would allow you to focus on other aspects of your business. Bourgeois Wicks came to fruition one night sitting in my apartment burning a candle. While sitting there, the thought came, “…I’m not the only one who loves candles, why not share my love with others. I’ll start selling them myself!” I truly love candles and believe that choosing candles, in view of their aroma or scent, can be a surprising method to improve one’s mind-set, lessen tension, and even battle weariness or loneliness.
At Bourgeois Wicks, we specialize in crafting luxury candles that combine elegance with a focus on sustainability. Our journey began with a passion for creating a sensory experience that goes beyond just lighting a candle. We wanted to offer something that speaks to personal style, ambiance, and well-being. The name “Bourgeois Wicks” reflects our vision of merging sophistication with everyday comfort.
We create hand-poured, eco-friendly candles made from vegan soy coconut, offering a range of rich fragrances that elevate any space. Bourgeois Wicks is a passion project that we’ve personally funded from the beginning. Rather than seeking outside investors or loans, we decided to invest our own savings into the business. This approach gave us full control over every aspect of the brand, allowing us to stay true to our vision and values without external pressure. However, we are looking into how we can get some grants to assist in funding our business/brand.
The journey required careful budgeting and a lot of hard work, but it’s been incredibly rewarding to see the business grow from something we believed in to a brand that resonates with our customers. Self-funding also taught us the importance of being resourceful and making smart decisions about where to allocate funds, whether it was sourcing high-quality materials or ensuring our packaging was eco-friendly.
We’re proud to say that every candle we produce is a reflection of our personal investment—not just financially, but in terms of time, passion, and commitment.
