We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Elizabeth Granger. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Elizabeth below.
Elizabeth, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today So, let’s start with trends – what are some of the largest or more impactful trends you are seeing in the industry?
When it comes to family photo sessions, I am seeing a trend of candid, raw images taking precedent over posed family photos. In addition to families, brides are looking for wedding photographers who have an eye for seeing and capturing candid emotions and designers are looking for photographers who know how to not only capture a space, but tell an authentic story of the home and family who lives in the home they designed. I love to give prompts and then step back and photograph kids being kids. I love looking for tender and raw emotion on wedding days and step back as a family enjoys being a family in their home.
In an overly curated and image heavy culture, people are craving authenticity and connection.

Elizabeth, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am an lifestyle, family and interior photographer.
I photograph a little bit of everything. I have captured families, first breaths, final breaths, large events, small events, authors, littles, business owners, stay at home moms, artists, interiors, survivors, celebrities, babies, brides, families, surgeons, farmers and friends. I have worked in India, Italy, cities all over the US, my hometown and my backyard.
The heart and vision behind every photo I take is not only to create a beautiful image, but to capture the moment as is, to capture my clients for who they genuinely are and to tell an authentic story.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
What drives my creative journey is not the image itself but the people behind the lens. I am driven by the desire to bring hope and beauty into an image heavy and highly curated industry.
Life is full of hard seasons and my goal is not to create art and images that do not mask the reality of life or pretend to but rather to add a little bit of beauty to the world around us. It is possible for pain and beauty, hope and loss to coexist. When I photograph a family, a home, a child, designer, newborn, or business owner my hope is to bring a little fun and beauty into their world during our session together by serving them well. My goal is to deliver images that they will always cherish and treasure in every season of life.

Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
The most effective strategy for growing my clientele is word of mouth.
My aim is to be a peaceful presence during a photoshoot. People will remember most how you made them feel. My goal, above all, is to make sure my clients feel valued. As a photographer, it is tempting to make the atmosphere of a photoshoot all about getting the perfect photo and often a photographer can be tempted to make shoots all about building their own portfolio. I constantly am reminding myself to put my client first above all and make sure their experience is for them is fun, welcoming, and peaceful.
There are many photographers to choose from and I believe what sets my business apart is not only the photos I take but the way I interact with others. My hope is that they way I interact with those I am working with leads to word of mouth referrals and growing my community and clientele as a photographer.
