We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Elizabeth Fons a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Elizabeth thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to hear about the things you feel your parents did right and how those things have impacted your career and life.
My parents were always supportive of me and my creative career. I’m endlessly grateful that they not only let me pursue the arts but helped me to take college level drawing classes in high school. They also supported me through Savannah College of Art and Design. I remember calling them for money for project supplies and they never said no to any of my crazy ideas. Once, even a dress made of crystals!

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Growing up I was always drawing, painting and creating something. I knew very early on that I wanted to go to art school to pursue a career in design. I have always been a person who loves to make others happy. My true passion is being able to take my design ability to create something beautiful and unique for clients.
I began designing wedding invitation packages after graduating from the Savannah College of Art and Design in 2008. While living in New York after college I worked as an event designer for an ad agency. That design experience had a huge influence on the direction of my work. I had the opportunity to work with a diverse client portfolio. This experience also honed my organization and management skills needed to get the job done perfectly!
Knowing I wanted to start my own business, I took the leap and founded Jade Social in 2013. Being in business for 13 years has been an honor and a privilege for me to work with couples during one of the happiest times of their lives.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
Before I started my wedding stationery design company, I had an interview to design invitation stationery at Crane. I had never wanted an opportunity more in my life. I made it into the interview process but ended up not getting the job. I decided that I would make the job for myself and that was one of the founding factors in starting my company.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
Owning a business you are always pivoting. Some big pivots to survive were selling vintage stamps during Covid. We opened a retail store for 2.5 years and have recently decided to close that arm. It was no longer serving our business or clients in the way that I wanted it to. Being able to look at things and make hard choices are pivotal in being successful.
