Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Elizabeth Emans Dardes. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Elizabeth, thanks for joining us today. Let’s jump right into how you came up with the idea?
I have a MA in English, BA in English/Writing, and Teaching Certification in Language Arts/English. I love school! I started in advertising – radio and corporate mainly copywriting, p.r., print, video, and special events. I then went to teaching. This was all before the Internet.
I had three children, and volunteered as co-chair and marketing chair for the largest fundraiser at the largest Catholic Church in our area while the kids were small. I then went back to education at the college level and was missing my creative outlets. I explored social media and online publication as a freelancer. My next article comes out in August 2023, and I’m working on new ideas at this moment.
Regardless of the changes in advertising and media marketing in regard to the Internet, writing well is still honored.

Elizabeth, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My main job now is assisting college students with their writing as well as career test prep and publishing articles on line as well as in print publications.
My goal is to establish a proofreading business that encompasses all forms of writing that a business or individual needs to help promote their business and help publish their writing. I find that the structure and grammar needed for most students is sadly no longer taught in public schools. Proper English is always a good idea! Travel anywhere in the world and people speak English. I am current and quite witty, but I’m also a stickler for the formal and traditional. Like fashion, one can never be overdressed.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
Resilience and perseverance are two terms most creatives know. I started by pitching article ideas to magazines and newspapers. That was the only way to be published. A publisher gave one the okay, and you were off writing. It’s quite different today. Today you can blog or Tweet anything, and it’s seen by someone.
Directly after college, I received as many rejections as the query letters I sent. Only once did I come close to having an article published in a cyclist magazine about a cycling excursion in Vermont. I was eventually published as a travel writer many times, but only with persistence. If you really want something, you don’t ever give up. It’s never too late, especially in today’s world.
Any resources you can share with us that might be helpful to other creatives?
I couldn’t have known what was to come, but I do wish I had learned Graphic Design. If I were to start again, I’d be an Art Director for print or a photographer.
