We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Elizabeth Eichhorn. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Elizabeth below.
Elizabeth, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – walk us through the story?
Growing up, I was taught the world looked and worked a particular way. As I got older, I started to learn how untrue that really was. I didn’t feel settled or happy in most of the courses I was taking in college or the jobs I had afterwards. I had to allow myself to feel. When I did that, I recognized that I was meant to be something more and push myself. I created a food company. It was vulnerable to put myself out into the world, but I did it. I look back and see all of the mistakes I made, but also all the growth I’ve had. It is not about focusing on the things you can’t do, be proud of taking the risky steps, because most people don’t.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am a business coach and strategist as well as the owner of a wine bar. Both are challenging, but work well together. The wine bar is very new, so a lot of my attention is going towards that and making sure things are running smoothly. My coaching is both business strategy and fundraising. I didn’t have a coach or place to go when I was staring my former company, so I wanted to make sure other founders didn’t go through the tough times alone.
Both companies were created to give people a sense of place, hope, and inclusion. I’m incredibly proud of the model that I’ve created and that I continue to build upon.
How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start your business?
For my food company, I successfully raised on Kickstarter and did a friends/family raise.
For my wine bar, we did an investment round, but from our neighbors. We want our space to be local and communal, so we gave our neighbors the opportunity to support us.
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
Be honest, authentic, consistent. People need to feel that they trust you and your brand before they select you as the provider.
