Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Elizabeth “dr. Liz” Glover. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Elizabeth “Dr. Liz”, appreciate you joining us today. Risking taking is a huge part of most people’s story but too often society overlooks those risks and only focuses on where you are today. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – it could be a big risk or a small one – but walk us through the backstory.
I’ve never been afraid to take risks. As a child, many tried convincing me that was a problem; that my difference was rooted in directionless defiance. It is but by my own tenacity that I toughed through the critics that tried silencing my roar. I was made to be fierce, to lead, and to create impactful change. The more seasoned I got over the years, the more I learned to use the gift I was given–the gift mistaken for a curse. You see, I’ve always been of the belief that you’re either a part of the problem or a part of the solution–there’s no marinating medium. So, I chose to create solutions. Fueled and driven by the social adversities I both witnessed and experienced, especially in schools across America, I decided to serve sociological solutions. The risk: agitating a system submerged in the cycles of racism, sexism, and ableism–especially amongst those unwilling to admit this truth. As a former K-12 educator, this meant going against the grain of what was popular to instead do what I knew was within my power and my position. It wasn’t enough though, bridging boulders only in one building. I realized the pandemic of organizational and institutional stratification, and left the public school arena to partake in private practice. Now, I don’t look back, I’ll never look back–doing so will only slow my progression forward. I help leaders identify, understand, and strategize in the direction of “why” we do what we’ve always done, and how to ensure we now do what we can! As a sociological consultant, I lead a pathway of progression towards diversity, equity, and inclusion, working to ensure a heightened sense of belonging fruitful to retention, and subsequently success.
Elizabeth “Dr. Liz”, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am Dr. Liz, a sociologist, educationalist, and passionate advocate for equitable change. My journey into the fields of sociology and education has been deeply rooted in my desire to create inclusive, transformative environments for learners and communities. As an educationalist, I have spent years fostering leadership, cultural inclusivity, and critical thinking. My research-based initiatives have consistently focused on strategizing for equity in education, civil rights, and beyond.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
One of the things I am most proud of is receiving the W.E.B. DuBois Award, which affirms my commitment to advancing the causes of justice and equality throughout society’s institutions and organizations. Through my work, I aim to inspire others to think critically about social systems, while offering tangible solutions for overcoming inequality. I want potential clients and collaborators to know that my work is rooted in integrity, innovation, and a dedication to fostering environments where every voice is heard and valued.
Whether working with students, institutions, or community leaders, I am committed to making a meaningful impact by addressing systemic issues with empathy and actionable strategies.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
My reputation has been built on a foundation of integrity, a commitment to institutional equity, and a deep understanding of both the educational and sociological landscapes. As an educator and advocate, I’ve consistently prioritized culturally inclusive practices and student-centered approaches, which have garnered respect among peers and professionals alike. My ability to navigate complex social issues with empathy and evidence-based solutions has helped me stand out in success with the range of partners I’ve collaborated with.
Ultimately, what has helped me build my reputation is my unwavering passion for creating environments where marginalized voices are heard, valued, and empowered, along with my ability to turn that passion into actionable, impactful strategies. My focus on equitable outcomes, combined with a genuine dedication to the communities I serve, has positioned me as a trusted and influential voice trusted by establishments seeking sustainable success and inclusivity amongst those they serve.
But, getting to this professional point first meant unlearning the socialization of accepting what is considered normal for the sake of keeping comfortable. From the school-place to the workforce, when people feel they belong they are more likely to be functioning and fruitful components to the collaborative communities they’re a part of.
