Elizabeth, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today How did you come up with the idea for your business?

The idea to start Scapes by Elizabeth came from realizing the need for thoughtfully designed products that showcase people’s favorite places. With a love for art, architecture, and fashion, I wanted to merge these passions into a high-quality, luxury item that held unique meaning. Struggling to find such a piece myself, I decided to create luxurious Italian silk scarves inspired by cities and travel. After developing samples, it was clear that many women shared my desire for these beautifully designed, versatile scarves that could be worn or gifted. This confirmed that my idea was something special and worth pursuing.

Born and raised amidst the vibrant energy of Miami, I cultivated my passion for drawing and fashion from an early age. During my travels, I always enjoyed marveling at architectural wonders and wanted to find items that reminded me of my time in each city. I pursued my dedication to architecture with a Master of Architecture degree from Yale University.

Scapes By Elizabeth is where luxury, versatility, and narrative intersect. We offer exquisite silk scarves and ties with designs inspired by cities in the US and abroad. We also create custom silk scarves and accessories for brands and events. Each of our products are made in Italy using 100% silk twill. Our scarves are perfect for any occasion, transitioning seamlessly from day to night. These versatile pieces can be worn not only as scarves but also as tops, skirts, headpieces, neck ties, bracelets, or even chic purses.

What else should we know about how you took your side hustle and scaled it up into what it is today?

I started Scapes By Elizabeth in architecture school, where I developed the ability to convey narratives through design. During my final year of school, I began researching how to create designs on silk, finding manufacturers, and developing a business plan. I started this brand as a passion project, and when I noticed the growing interest in the product, I realized it had the potential to become something significant. After graduating, I was able to focus on the business full time. Key milestones included securing a reliable manufacturer, launching my first collection, and receiving positive feedback from customers. As demand grew, I expanded my product line and built a strong social media presence, turning my side hustle into a thriving full-time business.

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?

Building an audience on social media involved sharing behind-the-scenes glimpses, day-in-the-life moments, and style tips. Online I talked about the process of designing a scarf, combining storytelling with product marketing. My advice for anyone starting to build their social media presence is to be transparent and show all aspects of your business. Don’t just focus on the product; emphasize the inspiration and process behind it. Engage your audience with the journey, the creativity, and the passion that goes into everything you create. This connection will help you build a loyal and engaged following.
