We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Elizabeth Clark Hoverman a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Elizabeth, appreciate you joining us today. Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
Currently I am working on a few projects , one of them being for the Ukrainian people. My husband starting getting into the NFT scene about 6 months ago and discovered recently about music NFTs. Since the war between Russia and Ukraine, my heart has been heavy for the Ukrainian people. So many of them have lost everything and many have fled their own country to seek asylum and safety. I can’t begin to imagine what they are going through. They are the inspiration for my latest song, a song I wrote for them called “I’m Praying For You”. I have just recently released this project with the intention to raise funds to donate to Convoy of Hope so they can continue to help those in need.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
My husband Thomas and I are a blended family and we have 6 lovely kiddos and one adorable dog. A little story about how I got started as a professional songwriter. First of all I never thought that’s one of the things I would end up doing. I originally wanted to be a dancer but when I was a preteen I fractured my ankle and was told it wouldn’t be a good idea to be a dancer because of it. Few years after, I started songwriting when I was 14 but I didn’t have anyone that could help me with my craft until about 6-7 years later. My parents really believed in me and they found some well known songwriters in Nashville who helped me become a much better songwriter. At first it was tough having someone tear apart my songs but I realized it was constructive criticism and it ended up benefiting me and shaping who I am today as a songwriter. Even after 21 years, I still look for ways to become a better writer. You never stop learning! Over the years I have helped others become better songwriters too. And now I get to help some of my kids who have the ability to write songs. On top of song writing, I occasionally do vocal coaching as well as shape young worship leaders. I really enjoy doing what I do, and although I do not have a musical degree I have not let that stop me from helping others achieve their dreams. Sometimes we limit ourselves based on what we think others perceive of us or even what we think of ourselves. It’s good to take risks and have family and or even people who are like family to support you and believe in you. We all need that. I don’t like seeing anyone who is gifted give up on what they were made to do. When I see others thriving in their gifts it makes me so happy!
One of the things I have indeed struggled with as I have gotten older is why should I keep doing what I do? The answer is simple though. No matter the size of my following someone needs to hear what I have to say and it could change their life forever. We have a voice and we have a choice. I choose not to lie in the shadows but be a beacon of hope and light In such a troubled world.
Alright – so here’s a fun one. What do you think about NFTs?
I am really new to the NFT world. My husband is much more knowledgeable but is catching me up to speed and helping me understand that world better. I think it’s the next big thing in the music industry. I’m just getting started with it. I have been on all the other platforms that singers are on for music and this platform is really intriguing to me. There is so much to explore. I was listening on an NFT space recently regarding music; and heard an artist say she had been dropped by her label for being pregnant. Now she is exploring this new NFT world specifically for music and learning that more money could be made in the NFT world than millions of plays on Spotify. Currently I have two NFT’s on there called Time To Live and I’m Praying For You. I am working on others that will also be on there in the future. I intend on putting out song stories and even a love song I wrote for my husband.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
We all go through things. Hard things. Awful things. Tragic things. For me one of those tragic things was a failed marriage. My previous husband of 10 years wasn’t the nicest guy at times. He was abusive and didn’t treat people right in business. So I decided it was time I left. I couldn’t take the mental torment and mistreatment anymore and it wasn’t good for my kids to stay in that kind of environment. The other sad truth to this was I was also mom to his daughter, our kids half sister. I desperately wanted to take her with me but legally couldn’t. I still love her to this day as much as I did the day she became mine. I prayed for years that change would come. I still prayed for that even after I left. That change would come to him.To me. And to our kids. I prayed their hearts would heal as well as mine own. Truthfully I wanted their dad to be helped and healed as well. I had a lot of unforgiveness and despised the man. I didn’t want divorce but there was no other way out. I was scared and didn’t trust him. After 17 years and each of us remarried now, he did change. And things are now great and a friendship established. We co-parent the kids and all get along well. It’s great! But it took years of prayer, healing, patience , kindness and letting go and letting God. I’m stronger today because of my journey and I am also more whole. I have remarried since then to a truly wonderful man. So good things and great things also happen! Godly fairytales do exist after all. I’m living proof. Thanks for listening to my story. Hope this brings you the reader hope and inspiration!
