We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Elissa Goodman. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Elissa below.
Elissa, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What’s the best advice you ever gave to a client? How did they benefit / what was the result? (Please note this response is for education/entertainment purposes only and shouldn’t be construed as advice for the reader)
One of the best pieces of advice I’ve given to a client came from a place of deep personal experience. A woman came to me dealing with chronic fatigue, stubborn weight gain, and persistent digestive issues. She had been chasing solutions, jumping from one diet to the next, and even starting medication based on guesswork rather than understanding the root cause. I could see so much of my own health journey in hers—the frustration, confusion, and desperation to feel well again.
We started with a comprehensive blood panel, something I’m incredibly passionate about. I’ve always emphasized the importance of seeing the body as a whole system, and this was no exception. When the results came back, we found underlying thyroid issues, nutrient deficiencies, and inflammation—all of which had been overlooked by previous approaches. She was insulin resistant, she had high blood sugar, and her hormones were totally out of whack.
I guided her through a personalized cleanse, similar to my EG Kitchen Cleanse, and we focused on cellular hydration, nourishing her body with clean, anti-inflammatory foods, and addressing the underlying causes rather than just the symptoms. We also worked on hormone balance, gut health, and stress management—things I believe are essential for true healing.
Within months, her energy returned, her digestion improved, and she lost the weight that had been holding her back—not just physically, but emotionally. She told me that it was the first time in years that she felt in control of her health. Healing is possible when you approach it holistically, and her story is a testament to that. It’s the same journey I went through when I overcame cancer and autoimmune disease, and seeing her thrive is the ultimate reward.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Personal health and educating others on their health and wellness have been passions of mine for many years. I have had issues with my health for my entire life culminating in cancer and Hashimoto’s in my 30’s. Beyond my own health, I have also struggled while watching various loved ones suffer from health-related issues, including my husband Marc who lost his battle to cancer in his mid-40’s. Despite my many challenges with health, I am so grateful for the lessons that I have learned from them because they have given me the fuel to pass on my knowledge to other people in need. Today I remain cancer, Hypothyroidism, Hashimoto’s and Celiac free and I feel better than ever! Many people think that cleansing means starving yourself or drinking juices all day. My approach to cleansing is gentle and accessible for those looking to renew, recharge, rejuvenate, and maintain their healthy lifestyle.

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
For years, I was stuck in the mindset that my job was just a means to an end—a way to make a living, not a way to find fulfillment. After college, I worked long hours in a corporate environment, pushing myself to the brink in an effort to succeed. I thought that was the only way to be successful, even though it left me feeling exhausted and disconnected from my health and happiness.
It wasn’t until I was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma at age 32 that everything shifted. That diagnosis forced me to reevaluate not only my health but also my relationship with work. I realized that I had been prioritizing external success over my well-being, and I needed to make a major change. I decided to pursue a career in holistic health and nutrition—something that aligned with my passion and allowed me to help others while also feeling fulfilled.
Through that process, I learned that work doesn’t have to be a grind. You can find success and joy in what you do if it aligns with your values and passions. I love my job now, not because it’s easy but because it brings me purpose and meaning. I’m helping people heal, and in return, I feel fulfilled and energized just about every day.

Training and knowledge matter of course, but beyond that what do you think matters most in terms of succeeding in your field?
Other than training and knowledge, I think the most helpful trait for succeeding in my field is being open-minded and adaptable to change. Holistic health and nutrition are constantly evolving—new research is emerging, our understanding of the body is deepening, and the way we approach wellness is shifting all the time. You have to be willing to embrace those changes, even if it means rethinking what you thought you knew or adjusting the way you work with clients.
I’ve realized that no two people are the same, and what works for one person might not work for another. I’ve had to remain open to new approaches, continuously learning and evolving in my practice to provide the best support for each individual. This openness to change allows me to stay on the cutting edge of nutrition and health, and to offer my clients the best possible guidance as new information emerges.
