We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Elissa Dunn. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Elissa below.
Elissa, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
Early on in my career as a bartender I saw the benefit of having a social media presents. There were other only a couple bartenders at the time who would getting opportunities and money from social media. But I thought “If they can do it there isn’t a reason why I can’t too!”

Elissa, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
At the age of 27 I decide to leave my corporate job for a restaurant job because it looked like fun. I had no idea at that time that I would fall in love with bartending and creating cocktails. 8 years later I have had the opportunity to work at high end resorts, Michelin star restaurants, and award winning craft cocktail bars. Now I am based in Phoenix and run “The Badass Bartender” and work at Merc Bar on the weekends. At “The Badass Bartender” we focus on the basics of craft cocktails with a badass female empowerment edge. I am most proud about the number of people I have been able to touch through out these last 3 years. Talking about women’s issues, being completely unapologetic about who I am and how I feel, and what I am going through has really seemed to impact people.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
Many times throughout this journey I had people would doubted what I was doing. My I stuck to my guns and now I am getting opportunities I would have never dreamed of.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
When I started my social media journey I didn’t go by “The Badass Bartender.” I went by “E_atthebar.” I just didn’t feel like the first name suited for what I was trying to do. I did a lot of brainstorming and took a huge pivot from very heavy on the craft cocktail to more basics, and being more honest about my thoughts and feelings. And it has all paid off.
