We were lucky to catch up with Elisha Garza recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Elisha thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
Having an entrepreneurial spirit has always been part of my personality. Throughout my life, I have always been drawn to fashion. When I was a teenager, I was captivated by designer tags and dreamed of creating my own label. Even though I took an interest in clothing and accessories, my heart was set on jewelry design. As a young girl, I remember my first time selling my jewelry at a local art show.
I enrolled in a jewelry design course in Austin, Tx to learn the trade. Little did I know that these courses would pave the way to creating EM Jewelry.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
In 2012, I designed my first jewelry collection – a simple collection of everyday rings. The pieces were comfortable and minimal, in keeping with EM’s aesthetic. After launching my first online shop, I discovered that I had a loyal following. In my efforts to launch EM Jewelry, I studied every aspect of a business. Through the online shop, I generated enough revenue to quit my day job and fully launch Elisha Marie Jewelry.
When I design jewelry, I want to help you feel empowered when wearing them. These pieces are deeply rooted in meaning. Think of them as reminders of your resilience, strength, the ones you love, and the moments you cherish. Whether it’s a personalized memento or an impactful charm, our jewelry offers luxurious materials perfect for your everyday wear.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
This past year has been physically, mentally and spiritually challenging for me and my family. I’ve been on a healing journey due to Endometriosis and Adenomyosis. which required a hysterectomy along with several other surgeries. This was a huge decision but one that I had to make to have a normal lifestyle without daily debilitating pain.
With so much time on bed rest and unable to create jewelry or sit at a computer, I had to rethink my career. I started brainstorming on how to get my real estate investment business started, which I’ve been putting off for some time.
My dream is to build Cenizo Hill, a peaceful river retreat in my hometown in Uvalde, Texas. Cenizo Hill is located on a 7-acre natural space and is perfect for filming, photography, camping and Glamping. We will be available for hourly bookings as well as longer stays in 2023.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
There have been many chapters in my life, from being a young single mother with a son diagnosed with ADHD, working a full-time job, going to school, and starting a business. When I first started on my business, I had tunnel vision on a dream I knew was just within reach. I converted an extra bedroom in my home into a jewelry studio and worked daily to make my dream happen.
It wasn’t an easy road to walk, but I am glad I did it. In the beginning, learning the business side of things from the ground up was the biggest challenge. Then I had a major life turning point when I found out my fiance had cancer. I learned that being an entrepreneur does not mean you have to do everything. Invest time in your health, your family, and your friends. I’m thankful for their support.
