We recently connected with Elisha Akram and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Elisha, thanks for joining us today. How did you learn to do what you do? Knowing what you know now, what could you have done to speed up your learning process? What skills do you think were most essential? What obstacles stood in the way of learning more?
How did you learn to do what you do?
I learned by doing. I had a childlike curiosity and fearlessness when it came to picking up a camera and taking photos. I wasn’t afraid to try, and at the time, I was genuinely proud of the work I was producing—even if I didn’t fully understand the craft yet. That excitement and joy kept me going and gave me the confidence to keep improving.
Knowing what you know now, what could you have done to speed up your learning process?
Looking back, I wish I had invested in photography classes or workshops earlier in my journey. Learning from experienced professionals would have helped me refine my skills much faster and avoid some of the trial-and-error that took extra time.
What skills do you think were most essential?
For me, people skills have been absolutely essential. Being able to connect with and adapt to different personalities has been just as important as understanding the technical side of photography. A great photo session is about making people feel comfortable and confident in front of the camera.
What obstacles stood in the way of learning more?
The biggest obstacle was a lack of resources to invest in myself. Whether it was money for better equipment, classes, or access to mentors, those limitations made it harder to grow as quickly as I wanted to. But I learned to be resourceful, which in itself became a valuable skill.

Elisha, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Hi, I’m Elisha Akram, the creative force behind Kustom Kreation Photography. My journey as a photographer stems from a lifelong love of creativity. From crafting and sewing to capturing life through pictures and videos, I’ve always found joy in creating something meaningful. When I first began exploring photography, it was another outlet for my creativity, but it quickly became a passion. Seeing my clients happy with the images I produced made me realize that this was something truly special.
Over time, my photography journey expanded as I connected with families to capture their most cherished moments. From family portraits and headshots to high school senior photos and life’s precious milestones—birthdays, graduations, anniversaries, and even funerals—I’ve had the honor of preserving memories that mean the world to my clients.
As I gained more experience, I started collaborating with event planners who trusted me to capture their clients’ special events. This partnership grew, and I became the go-to photographer for showcasing not just the event itself, but also the planner’s work. Together, we created stunning portfolio images that elevated their brands and brought their visions to life. From these collaborations, my content creation services were born, helping businesses showcase their products, services, and events with professional, engaging visuals.
What truly sets me apart is my genuine enthusiasm for supporting my clients’ success. I see myself as a cheerleader for the brands and businesses I work with, striving to create images that help them stand out and get noticed. My goal is to build relationships with my clients, connecting with them on a personal level so we can create images that feel authentic and meaningful.
Photography has brought so much magic into my life. My camera has connected me with incredible people, unforgettable places, and countless stories waiting to be told. This journey has been nothing short of amazing, and I’m deeply grateful for the visual stories I’ve been able to create and share.
If you’re looking for someone to capture your special moments, create stunning visuals for your brand, or simply tell your story through beautiful imagery, I’d be honored to work with you.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
For me, the most rewarding aspect of being an artist and creative is the freedom and flexibility to bring an idea to life. Whether it’s designing an event, creating a resource, or developing a themed photo shoot, my heart sings when a fresh idea sparks and I can move straight into action. I thrive on building things from scratch and seeing them come to life. I’m not one to sit on an idea for too long—I love diving in and bringing my vision to reality right away

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
I think my reputation within my market was built by simply being myself and showing up authentically. I don’t try to be anyone else or hide the fact that things aren’t always perfect. Instead, I focus on getting things done and putting my work out there, even if everything isn’t perfectly aligned. For me, progress matters more than perfection, and I believe that authenticity and consistency resonate with people.
