We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Elise Post a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Elise , thanks for joining us today. Who is your hero and why? What lessons have you learned from them and how have they influenced your journey?
My hero is my Dad (Doug Post), not only because he is an amazing dad, husband, friend, and boss. But because he is an inspiration, He and his brother started their own company “R&D Enterprises” in 1987 and are still going strong. He has taught me that being a business owner has its ups and downs, that the work never ends, and that it can take years to make it successful. While all of that sounds difficult, he has showed me all the positives over the years. It gives you the freedom of being your own boss, spending as much time as you want with your family, and the satisfaction of making your dream come true.
Anytime I have a question I just text “call me when you get a second?” then almost immediately I will get an incoming call from Dad. Not only does he give me advice on upcoming jobs and wording with contracts but he builds structures and helps with all types of events. He is not only my dad but my biggest supporter and now business partner. Thank you, Dad, for everything you do.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I am the founder of Yours Truly Events and Novelties. We specialize in event planning and custom apparel/merchandise. I am proud to say we recently added balloon arches, tent sleepovers and picnic parties. We consider ourselves to be luxurious yet budget friendly. Yours Truly believes every occasion should be a special occasion!

Can you talk to us about how your side-hustle turned into something more.
Yours Truly was originally created as a side hustle to make a little extra money as I worked my full time job. After I had my son in 2021 my current job became less flexible with scheduling and I struggled to find affordable childcare. This pushed me to quit my full time job to pursue my dream of being my own boss in 2022. Now my weekdays consist of taking care of my son, posting on all social media platforms, fulfilling orders, editing videos, sending out contracts and ordering supplies for upcoming events. My weekends are usually filled with events but I am able to plan around my family’s needs. I no longer have to work 10-12 hours a day, request off dates in hopes that it is approved or work holidays.
We recently just celebrated our one year anniversary of being full time as well as completed our first wedding! We have a long way to go but we wouldn’t be where we are if I didn’t quit my job and put all my energy into Yours Truly.

What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
Most of our new clientele comes from Facebook. Surprising right? Whenever I talk to other small business owners they usually say Instagram or Tiktok. This just shows it is different for everyone. We are still trying to grow our following across social platforms but in the meantime Facebook has been good to us. We are close to 2K followers, once we hit that milestone we will do a big giveaway! I post weekly on local group pages and always keep our page updated with our most recent products, events and specials.
We are also very thankful for word of mouth recommendations and our repeat clients! It has been truly a pleasure to be apart of several of their big days (ie; baby showers then first birthdays!)
