Elise, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Almost every entrepreneur we know has considered donating a portion of their sales to an organization or cause – how did you make the decision of whether to donate? We’d love to hear the backstory if you’re open to sharing the details.

Through the profit I have raised from starting my business, I plan to use a portion of the funds to help launch both college scholarship and college admission programs in underprivileged communities. My goal is to empower passionate, young students to apply to their dream college and pursue a higher education past high school. Educating our youth is critical to building the leaders of our future, and I want to ensure that students who may not have the adequate college counseling resources to get an equal opportunity to succeed in their college admissions journey.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.

My name is Elise Pham, I am from Fort Worth, TX, and I am a 19 year old undergraduate student at Harvard University. In January 2023, I decided to write a College Admissions eBook and promote it online through Instagram and TikTok. In less than one month, I have gained over 150,000 followers and 20 Million views across my platforms, and generated over 5,000 in eBook sales.

My eBooks include a College Essay handbook, various SAT study guides, and an Interview handbook.

On my social media platforms, I create a variety of content, ranging from study tips to college application advice.

The most rewarding part of this journey has been the feedback I receive from my followers. Many have told me how helpful my eBooks are, while others continue to update me with how much they have improved on their exams and grades.

I want my followers to know that my goal is to create free or affordable college admissions and study advice to help them reach their highest potential. I am so grateful for every single follower and I truly hope I can continue to help young students.

Have you ever had to pivot?

Before I entered the business of digital products and content creation, I had failed multiple times attempting to launch various e-commerce businesses. In addition, I worked at a restaurant job, but my income was not enough given the amount of work and effort I was putting in. As a result, I decided to reflect on my personal assets and the knowledge I could share with others. With my love for graphic design and tutoring, I decided to write a College Admissions eBook and the business immediately took off.

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?

My biggest advice is to focus on quality over quantity. If you are a video creator, spend time editing your videos and adding text or transitions. Learn how to capture your audience’s attention so that the social media algorithm works in your favor. You will fail a few — or even many — times, but continue to remain optimistic and consistent.
