Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Elise Kristine. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Elise, appreciate you joining us today. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
The entire experience of American Idol from how it shaped me into who I am and what it taught me about myself. What the process has been like after that experience? The ups and downs of being an artist, especially going from such a high so quickly.
The music-making process/creative process. How the songs come to be, and what influences them!

Elise, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Hi! My name is Elise Kristine! I’m a 20 year old singer/songwriter/and performer! I was recently a Top 24 contestant on American Idol. I grew up doing musical theater and studying classical vocal training. I am a huge extrovert and love meeting new people. I believe whats sets me apart is my classical training and ability to sing pretty much any genre of music well! I am most proud of the person I have become from my experiences, the new music I am making, and how much I am continuing to learn about my craft!

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist is how much it can change and help you, and how that same change is affected in others because of something you created! I often will be so deep in an emotion and so confused about it, but once the song is made, I understand it better and feel content with myself in that emotion. Seeing that same thing happen for others, knowing its because of something I created brings people together in the most beautiful sense!

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
When I first started out I thought I had to be isolated! I believed that to be good at my craft I had to care about nothing else and put 100% of my time, energy, mental, and emotional capacity into it, ignoring everything and everyone else, and that that was the only way I was going to be successful! Until I realized how noncreative I became with that mindset, and how awful I always felt! I wrote better songs, felt happier and more content when I allowed myself to be open and free, not taking myself too seriously and allowing life to just happen!
