We recently connected with Elise Brisco and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Elise, thanks for joining us today. If you had a defining moment that you feel really changed the trajectory of your career, we’d love to hear the story and details.
A defining moment that validated my shift from being in the exam room to being on the runway and in front of the camera is when I started receiving messages from followers around the world saying that they have a new lease on life because of seeing me crowned as Ms. Woman California United States in my 50’s, and seeing me as a fashion model. Followers were telling me that they were starting to work out again, following my self care routines, losing weight, and feeling good about themselves rather than feeling old. This is when I knew that I could reach more people than in the exam room, and continue my work as a doctor to help people improve their quality of life through adopting a healthy lifestyle.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I founded NearSight after 30 years in practice as an Integrative Optometrist and Clinical Homeopath because current solutions did not address many vision problems related to aging and our heavy dependence on digital devices well enough, or were out of reach for many people.
I wanted to put the power of vision in people’s hands and keep them connected to each other by being able to see comfortably as they age, and while on digital devices most of the day.
NearSight offers products for vision issues such as presbyopia (old eyes: not being able to see close up with age), myopia, and dry eyes. We will also offer an app with self-care for vision wellness such as eye exercises, whole body exercises for eye health, and foods to eat.
We will bring Vision Wellness to the forefront so that people learn how to care for their vision the way they can care for their overall health. Most people are not aware that they can do things to preserve their vision and eye health.

We’d appreciate any insights you can share with us about selling a business.
I sold my beloved multi-disciplinary optometric and wellness practice to focus on launching NearSight. My advice is two fold: Be prepared to redefine yourself especially if it is something you have done for your whole life/career
Make sure you understand and are willing to let someone else change the business you sold in a radical manner. You will have to let go of your vision of how you would have run your business. It is no longer yours so the new owners most likely will have new plans for your business.
If you sell your business to a private equity company or a corporation, be prepared to see a much more numbers driven model of your business. Especially with health care practices, the shift goes from patient centric to profit centric.
Training and knowledge matter of course, but beyond that what do you think matters most in terms of succeeding in your field?
Passion and a purpose-centered mission is most helpful for succeeding in business and most fields. Without a mission, the grueling hard work and sacrifices that you have to make to start and scale a business will be a chore rather than a joy.
