We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Elisabeth Shows a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Elisabeth, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
My mission in photography is to meet any budget. I have a price list but I will work with anyone. I never want someone to miss out on capturing a milestone or memory because of cost. I have a special place for single parents because I myself am I single mom. When I had my little girl I really couldn’t afford a session, but I was able to find a photographer that worked with us. It is not that I don’t think my photography skills and talent are not worth charging more but I honestly love capturing these magical memories for families and am disappointed when I family thinks they cant afford my services.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I have always had a camera in my hand, my first was the blue fisher price and I still remember developing the film. Over the years, I became the go to girl for ensuring we got the right angle for a selfie or perfect shot for a night out. When I graduated nursing school, my Dad bought me my first DSLR and it was love at first sight. I slowly started doing shoots for friends and a true passion and hobby has slowly turned into a second career. I consider my specialty newborn and family photography but also do headshots, couples, themed sessions and senior or graduation shoots. I recently opened an in home studio and have an entire garage full of props! My first love is nursing, I have been both a NICU nurse and Labor and Delivery nurse and have had the absolute pleasure to merge both of those worlds by following many of the babies I cared for and capturing their milestones. I also volunteer at the NICU doing Santa and easter bunny pictures. I am passionate about life and just an overall joyful person and would be honored to be included in your milestones!
Can you open up about a time when you had a really close call with the business?
My very first client session was a true disaster, It was cold outside and the baby was crying, my camera was freezing and by the end of the session I was almost in tears. Especially when I took out the card and some of the images didn’t copy. However, I was honest with the client that this was not my best work and here where the edited images, but I would also like to offer them a free session. Well, these was over 7 years ago and they just came did my first family studio session!
And I learned the hard way about sales tax, some of the legal taxes and filing taxes can get really confusing and I was paying federal but didn’t realize about the sales tax, until I got a notice in the mail that I was to be suspended if I didn’t pay them immediately. I have not made that mistake again!

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
There are so many rewarding aspects to capturing these milestones for families. Every single time I send a gallery and get that text message that they love them or cant stop looking at them or Im crying I cant believe how big my baby is! It truly is so rewarding or when a mom thinks we got zero good shots because all the kids melted down and no body smiled but I send her the sneak peaks and she loves them! Its so rewarding when they share the images in on social media or change their profile picture or when a family comes back year after year and the kids get out of the car and just run to me!
