We recently connected with Elisabeth Galperin and have shared our conversation below.
Elisabeth, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What do you think it takes to be successful?
Success is achieved through a unique combination of many strengths, skills, characteristics, and actions. In my own experience, what has contributed most significantly has been: self-confidence, a growth mind-set, a willingness to ask others for help, being open to feedback and constructive criticism, feeling unconditional support & love from a select number of people I respect and admire, and a whole lot of perseverance and grit!
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Hello! I am Elisabeth Galperin, a speaker, productivity coach, and team trainer who is passionate about helping professionals perform at their peak & reach their potential in all facets of life. As a recovering perfectionist, I work collaboratively with my clients to improve their personal habits, define & implement systems in their business, and increase overall productivity to consistently perform at their peak – while avoiding burn-out and overcoming overwhelm. My mission is to help clients feel in control of their lives, so they can achieve maximum productivity, profitability, and, most importantly, peace of mind.
As a keynote speaker, corporate trainer, and executive business coach, I empower professionals at all levels of their career to define productivity for themselves. I provide positive and encouraging accountability & partnership to my clients. Through the use of my signature system, The ASCEND Method™, I teach the fundamental, foundational systems and structures all professionals need for sustainable growth and success.
I learned early in life the consequences of being disorganized & undisciplined; I have a very strong memory of disappointing my parents and teachers (not to mention myself!) as a middle schooler. I believe this is when my passion for organization began and set me on a path to become a productivity expert.
In 2007, I lost my love for working in healthcare, and I knew I was destined for more! I pivoted from my role as a speech & language clinician and private practice manager to a business owner in the productivity & organizing industry- and I have never looked back!
When I am not working with clients, I love challenging myself to achieve my own levels of peak performance athletically. I have participated in competitive outdoor events such as marathons, triathlons, and Crossfit classes. I can also be found on the sidelines of my oldest son’s soccer field, at my youngest son’s ninja gym, and walking endless laps in my neighborhood with my beloved black lab, Bella.
Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
The most influential book I read in my early days of entrepreneurship, which has largely shaped my coaching philosophy, is “The E-Myth Revisited” by Michael Gerber. This book uses story to teach invaluable lessons about the vital shift that business owners must make from initially working IN their business to working ON the business, in order to achieve success.
So many small business owners start their business because they are a master of their trade (an excellent accountant, a masterful architect) and do not fully realize that in order to build a sustainable and scalable business, they must learn to become a masterful owner, visionary and leader. The book also teaches the value of developing and implementing systems and processes, and I am a systems-girl through and through!
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
The journey of business ownership is probably equal parts learning and unlearning! One of the most important “unlearnings” for me has been around taking risks. I certainly grew up avoiding risks as much as possible, and had a belief that ALL risks were dangerous, unsafe, and something to be feared.
Over the past 15 years, I have come to appreciate that risk often leads to reward, and that decisions or opportunities that initially appear to be risky are actually just experiences that are outside of my comfort zone. For example, I nearly missed out on the opportunity to be a part of an amazing female entrepreneurship mastermind program, because I felt the investment was going to be too much of a financial risk to take. Thankfully, I followed the sage advice of a few trusted business-owning friends, who reminded me that taking a “risk” on myself was actually a solid investment in myself. Joining that mastermind was the catalyst that helped me achieve some very significant goals, including breaking into the 6-figure revenue club!
