We recently connected with Elisa Montana and have shared our conversation below.

Elisa, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today How did you come up with the idea for your business?

I came up with the idea for Ellie’s Kitchen basically while buying cake pops for my two kids almost 3 times a week. Anytime I would go shopping I would tell them if they behaved in the store I would buy me a coffee and them a pop, but anyone who’s been to a Starbucks knows, they’re crazy expensive and why not make my own. On top of that I enjoy cooking – I always say “fed people are happy people”

Elisa, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?

I got into cooking when I got married. No one can eat out every night and enjoy everything. There’s something about making a meal, alone or as a couple, that when you get to eat the fruits of your labor, it’s more enjoyable. Something I actually also like to do, is look into alternatives. For example one family member is vegetarian and I like to make her similar dishes to what we’re eat so she doesn’t miss out on good food. One of my children, we’ve recently started feeding her gluten free and having to cook differently for her without watching what the rest of us are eating has also been a fun challenge.

What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?

My easiest and best source for new clients has been word of mouth and social media, mainly Instagram. My family supports me here as well as they’ll repost my posts and that garners attention.

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?

What I think helped build a reputation for me personally is that I am a personable, approachable person. I’m what my husband calls a social butterfly. I will make friends with a person standing behind me on the supermarket line. As well as remembering a planted seed doesn’t sprout overnight.
