We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Elijah Swinson. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Elijah below.
Elijah , appreciate you joining us today. Can you talk to us about how you learned to do what you do?
I come from an a background in architecture, so most of my formal training was pretty rigid. It wasn’t until I graduated that I knew that there was a huge world of design outside of my comfort zone. I worked almost exclusively with small businesses trying to get off the ground, and that’s what a good bit of my business has been.
Elijah , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I picked up freelance jobs after college out of necessity, but it taught me so much about the system, and I’ve re-written a lot of my daily practice based on that. Graphics aren’t always easy to market, but it’s still there, and there’s still a demand. Understanding best practice is critical.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
I tend to work more exclusively with smaller businesses. I usually embrace that as an economic backbone, so at the end of the day, I tend to stick with that more than a larger company
What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
Investing in public works. Seriously, the more active any city makes their public works programs, it will always bring in critical thinkers.
