Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Elijah Owens. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Elijah, appreciate you joining us today. One of our favorite things to brainstorm about with friends who’ve built something entrepreneurial is what they would do differently if they were to start over today. Surely, there are things you’ve learned that would allow you to do it over faster, more efficiently. We’d love to hear how you would go about setting things up if you were starting over today, knowing everything that you already know.
If I were starting over, one thing I’d definitely do differently is give it 100% from the very beginning. When I first started, I didn’t have as much confidence in myself or my work, and I hesitated to really put myself out there. Over time, as I gained more confidence, it showed not only in the quality of my photos but also in how I approached opportunities and challenges. That confidence made such a big difference in my growth.
Another thing I’d change is how I promoted my work. If I could go back, I’d start creating content on Instagram Reels and TikTok a lot sooner. When I finally began making short-form content to showcase my photos and behind-the-scenes moments, it completely transformed how I connected with people. It helped me grow my Instagram, build a larger audience, and attract clients who might not have found me otherwise. Consistently sharing my journey and work on social media has been one of the best decisions I’ve made, and I wish I realized this earlier.
Elijah, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I got into photography during my junior year of high school after a knee injury ended my time as an athlete. What started as shooting football games quickly grew into a passion, and within a year, I was working with brands like Bleacher Report, USC, and the NBA.
I focus on capturing the energy and emotion of sports, whether it’s action shots, player portraits, or behind-the-scenes moments. As a former athlete, I know the game and the moments that matter, which helps me tell stories that resonate with players, teams, and fans.
What sets me apart is my passion and dedication to quality. I’m proud of how far I’ve come in a short time and the connections I’ve made along the way. My goal is always to deliver meaningful, dynamic work that leaves a lasting impression on the client.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
My goal is to shoot for the NFL and make a career doing what I love. Photography to me is about more than just pictures; it’s about sharing stories and moments. I want to keep growing and see how far this hobby can take me.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
Social media played a big role in building my brand. A lot of photographers and athletes discovered my work through reels and TikToks. I think that being young has also helped me stand out since it’s not as common to see people my age in this field.
