We recently connected with Elijah Lamar and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Elijah thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to hear the backstory behind a risk you’ve taken – whether big or small, walk us through what it was like and how it ultimately turned out.
One of the biggest risks that I have taken in my career is quitting my corporate job to focus all my time and attention on my dreams. Going from a guaranteed paycheck to not knowing when you’re going to get paid again is a very uncomfortable feeling, you see when you have a 9 to 5 you know that you’re gonna get paid for the work that you put in, you’re gonna receive a paycheck either every week, every 2 weeks, however the company’s pay structure is, but when you’re pursuing a career like mine it’s different, yes you’re gonna get out what you put in but it’s never guaranteed that you’re really gonna get rewarded for all of your efforts, all of your sacrifices, all of your time, energy and hard work you put in.
I can honestly say it was the hardest decision I ever had to make, but it was the best decision I’ve ever made, and I wish I would have done it sooner. I went from working in a call center selling HBO, SHOWTIME & STARZ to being on HBO SHOWTIME & STARZ.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
What’s sets me apart from anybody else is for the simple fact I took my weakness that I used to be ashamed of, I used to be embarrassed of, I used to have low self esteem about and that was my speech impediment, I turned that into my strength and now everything I do requires me to speak. When it comes to public speaking, being a mentor, being an activist, being a rapper, a battle rapper, an actor, everything that I do requires me to speak. I literally turned my weakness into my strength.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
The best story that I can tell about that is when I move to Atlanta. I actually moved here to pursue my career as a artist, i never thought about acting, and then one day, I was actually at a low point in my career financially and I was actually considering going back home or getting a part time job. My friend told me about background acting and how it could help as a part-time job. Who would have known I was stepping into my calling to become one of the rising actors that is becoming a household name now.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
I really just want to get to a point where I can sit back and say I did it. I want to be able to feel like I’m financially stable and can take care of my family without stressing. My goal is to be happy and be at peace while I’m still loving what I’m doing for a living.
