We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Elias Costidis. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Elias below.
Hi Elias, thanks for joining us today. Can you talk to us about how you learned to do what you do?
It took us a long time to find the true direction we wanted to take our project. For a while, we were uncertain of what made our music truly ours in a sea of talented producers and creatives. After some serious reflection into what we thought were the true pillars of the SadBois project, we were able to refine our sound and identity to more greatly align with how our art was different and unique. This has led to us being able to create music that completely aligns with our goals and visions and no longer feels subjected to feeling a pressure of following trends or trying to impress people who are outside of our creative sphere. Now we are able to share a true reflection of the SadBois project. In retrospect, realizing this sooner would have saved us so much time from where we started to where we are now. Creatives are always told to follow their own path and to make art that they can take pride in but as social media influences start to dominate the artist pathway, we feel that many creatives are tempted to warp their true vision to align with something that has a greater chance of “catching virality”. Obviously we understand the need to have social media traction but it is sad when artists feel limited in their creative process to appeal to something outside of their true vision.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
We are an EDM band out of Long Island. We’ve been making music for some years but as SadBois its been about 3 years. We have released music on labels such as Warner, Helix, and Ophelia and in the last year we have had the opportunity to release official remixes for ILLENIUM, Said The Sky, and Two Friends. We have locked in on our “rocktronic” sound and are excited to continue bringing our fusion of electronic and rock music to anyone that wants to listen!

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
At the start of 2023 we had run into every artists worst nightmare, no planned releases and no clear path forward for sharing the art we did have with the world. Together we worked relentlessly to create a rollout plan that felt conscious, something that we could look back on and be happy with how we pushed our art to the world. Only together were we able to tackle such a difficult problem and found that even in the hardest of times we can always lean on each other .
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding part of being a creative is seeing the tracks and hard work connect with our fans. We have a really awesome core group of fans that we get to interact with daily on our Discord server and its been so incredibly rewarding to see their appreciation and excitement for every single piece of news we share. It seems like every artist says something similar but our online community has been with us for the last 3 years and stood next to us as we notched every single achievement. Our project is a shared experience with these people and seeing more and more fans wanting to engage with us and our music drives us more than anything else to continue creating art for them.
