Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Elianna Radin. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Elianna, appreciate you joining us today. Do you think your parents have had a meaningful impact on you and your journey?
One of the biggest reasons why I am where I am today is because of my parents. Creativity has always been in the culture of our family, so from a very young age I was surrounded by art, which is something I’ll always be thankful for! I was given so many opportunities that kids don’t always get the chance to have. I participated in an art show for the first time at age 4 with my pencil drawings alongside my dad‘s paintings that were inspired by my work. I debuted a more professional body of work (paintings) in 2011, for a show called “Night and Day: the sun always rises” when I was 7.
Sure, I was the curator‘s daughter. But I’ve been told, for that show in 2011, that’s not the reason why I got in. It was a professional art show and my parents treated me just like the other artists that entered. I had to come up with a concept that worked with the theme and had to be chosen just like everyone else. Yet, at the same time, the fact that I was their daughter was the entire reason why I made it in. They inspired me to go for something deeper and create something excellent, with meaning. Throughout the whole process, they encouraged me, listened to my ideas, and showed me that I mattered.
Others could’ve thought, “She’s only seven. She’s not old enough,” or “Her work isn’t professional enough.” But, my parents encouraged me in the thing that I was so excited and passionate about and that has been true for every creative endeavor since.
When I had the idea to start Inspire Joy, I already knew they would be excited about it, and in a way, that made me even more excited to begin the journey. They have made a huge impact on my life from very early on, and I love them so much.
Elianna, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’ve always loved art and grew up in a very creative household. I have a lot of memories of my siblings and I taking part in professional art shows, traveling to go to art festivals, creating works of art every day with crayons or pencils at home, writing songs, putting on plays, and filming movies in our backyard together. Ever since I can remember I’ve wanted to be an artist, so it’s pretty cool being able to look back and say that I have my childhood dream job!
Not too long ago I was talking with a friend of mine about my artwork/paintings and my plans after I graduated high school. She said something like, “Hey! Have you ever thought about putting some of your art on a t-shirt or clothing?” That conversation sparked the idea that is Inspire Joy!
Inspire Joy is a business and brand with goals to bring more joy, positivity, and inspiration into the world. It’s an online store that sells t-shirts, clothing, and other products with my original designs. I love the aspect that it’s artwork you can wear, take with you, and incorporate into your daily life. Having just launched in September 2022, it’s been surreal to be able to do this, and I’m excited to see how it will grow! My very first design actually came from a painting I created called “UnExpected” which I then re-created digitally. I still plan to paint regularly as well as create new designs for Inspire Joy. It’s been so fun to be able to share this with my friends and family, as well as with people I’ve never met!
As of now, Inspire Joy has 3 collections:
The Inspire Collection- Focuses on inspiration, as well as Inspire Joy’s brand identity.
The Fauna Collection – All about animals!
The Colors Collection- Color schemes and words.
( I also have some new collections launching this year! So stay tuned! )
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
I’d say my main mission with my work, whether through my paintings, t-shirt designs, or another project is to be an encourager and an inspiration to others. I want to create beautiful things that help people experience the joy of life and find purpose. Being kind or encouraging can really impact someone’s life, and that’s something I hope I accomplish through my art and in life in general.
Something I strongly believe is that everyone is creative. Whether that’s through visual or performing arts, making a meal, decorating your home, running a business, etc… So, encouraging people in their own kind of creativity is another huge motivation for me. I love hearing stories of how my artwork has encouraged someone in something or inspired them. That’s one of the most rewarding things about being an artist for me personally.
I also really seek to create with meaning. Sometimes that means there are layers of interpretations or one main point I want to make. Sometimes it means you have to think about it to discover the meaning behind it, other times the message is upfront. Either way, making something with purpose is always a goal of mine.
What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
Anytime I get a chance to talk to another creative I love encouraging them and sharing things that impacted me about their work.
I think sometimes in society it can be tricky because, of course, you want to become excellent at your craft and there definitely is a time and place for good healthy constructive criticism. But, more often than not, a little encouragement can go a long way. I think all of us can work on discovering more ways to help each other achieve our dreams and build people up instead of tearing them down. We all create differently, and while someone’s art might not be my personal favorite, someone else out there is really connecting with it, which I think is really cool.
Overall, I think a thriving creative community should be founded on encouragement.
