Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Elian Monjack . We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Elian, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
My story begins at the age of 13 when I was diagnosed with IBS (irritable bowel syndrome). As having IBS, you don’t know when you are going to have pains, so you begin to feel like your home is your getaway from the outside world. Now I realize that the way I designed my room at that time helped me feel at ease and safe. I used bright blue colors, soft textiles, and lots of wood, all promote relaxation.
With our modern lifestyle, we all experience stress daily so having a home that makes you feel great is so important.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I’m a designer and have a studio for Interior Decorating.
My approach to interiors is that the way you design your space has an influence on your well-being. I believe that all of us are individuals, thus your home should reflect who you are, your unique personality, and your needs. People work hard to save money to decorate their space, they deserve to have a home that nourishes them.
I offer both traditional and virtual interior decorating services for those who want to design their space from the comfort of their home.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
I believe that life is always in constant change, even if we think it’s not. It’s inevitable to grow your business and any other aspect of your life. I began my career as an interior textile designer, I had my online shop and worked with clients both on residential and commercial projects. About a year ago when I did a custom design for a restaurant in Boulder I realized I want to design the whole space and not just the textiles! Since that decision, I worked for two online interior design companies and have my studio. You could say it was a challenge to expand my business but I would say it is the most beautiful process, I’m so passionate about what I do, that every day I learn something new that makes me a better designer.
Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?
I saw a Netflix documentary about Ilse Crawford, former editor of ELLE Decoration and now a very successful interior designer. Her approach to design made me connect two aspects that I always had a conflict with; my creativity and spirituality. I didn’t realize how design can affect our day-to-day well-being, but now I understand the true impact interior design has on us.
Crawford mentions that we spent 87% of our life inside buildings, so how they are designed really affects how we feel and how we live. More than that she believes that wellness and well-being are the utmost important part of the design, and understating your client’s true needs is critical.
As I saw this documentary everything clicked and made sense because once you set your foot in your home you should feel nourished. Your home should make you feel great! And how do we do that? That’s the journey I take my clients with me. The goal is to express their unique needs and personality in both the layouts, colors, shapes, textures, and materials in space.
