We caught up with the brilliant and insightful ELI MONTANNA a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
ELI, appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to hear the backstory behind a risk you’ve taken – whether big or small, walk us through what it was like and how it ultimately turned out.
The biggest risk that I’ve taken is my path to pursue music overall. My first love was sports – being a promising athlete growing up, I ended up injuring myself playing football during my senior year of high school. That dream being shattered forced me to think about what I wanted my life’s purpose to be. After spending many nights talking to God, he led me to the other passion that I had always been neglecting which was music. I was always musically inclined – playing the drums at the age of four and singing in my church’s choir, but I was never serious enough to pursue and invest in it. That changed when I started taking the craft seriously and started recording. Here I am years later at 700k+ streams and still chasing the dream.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I’m a musical artists that goes by the name of ELI MONTANNA. I started taking music seriously at age seventeen – first working to earn my degree from Lamar State College in Port Arthur in Audio Engineering. This led to me interning at Reach Records as an audio engineer. I eventually started recording my own music under the name ELI PLM before growing into my name now
What I’m most proud of is my music resonating with people in terms of being relatable. I love when someone can reach out to me and tell me that my music helped them through an experience in their life.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
My journey hasn’t been smooth path -it’s been filled with a great deal of struggle. A lot of ups, downs and broken promises. At one point, I was sleeping in cars and studios from Atlanta to LA trying to do basically anything I could to make this music thing work. I’ve endured writer’s block and other life experiences that could have possibly made me put my pen down, but I continued to persevere and it has only made me stronger. There’s beauty in the struggle.

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
It took me a while to realize that being so caught up in wanting to reach my destination, I forgot to look around and enjoy the ride along the way. At times, I’ve been hyper-focused on what the next move should be that I don’t realize that some of the things I’ve accomplished are actually great milestones.
