We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Eli Boyer a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Eli, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to hear the backstory behind a risk you’ve taken – whether big or small, walk us through what it was like and how it ultimately turned out.
Anytime you start something like a band it’s gonna be risky no matter what. When we started talking about forming a band we were in the middle of a worldwide pandemic and we never thought we would be able to actually form the band. Lucky for us things died down and in the summer of 2021 Washington Avenue was formed.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
We are Washington Avenue and we are a Rock and Roll Band from St. Louis Missouri. We first formed in the summer of 2021. During the first lockdown, Payton Hutson (Lead Guitar) reached out to Eli Boyer (Vocals) on snapchat after Eli posted about listening to The Beatles classic, Rubber Soul. They talked about getting together to jam but never thought where that might take them. Payton was able to talk Ben Huss (Bass) to come jam with us and after jamming once, Ben was in. Finding a drummer was a very complicated process for Washington Avenue. For the first year it was tough finding a drummer who could commit to the band. Washington Avenue was lucky enough to record their first album “ Summer In St.Louis” in their first few months of being a band but soon after the release of the album they were drummerless again. A few months later when preparing for a show at Saint Ambrose University in Davenport Iowa Eli got in contact with Charles Hart (Drums) and asked him if he was willing to play a gig with the band. Charles was in and so the lineup was set for Washington Avenue. The band is about to release their second album “Locked In The Gallery” on October 22nd 2022.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
● Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
In today’s world social media plays a big part in everything we do. We have been able to use social media to help us reach people all over the world. TikTok especially has helped us reach people. We have been able to use Tiktok to promote our music so that people will go to their preferred streaming platforms and listen to our music. Social media has also been able to help us build a small following and we are hoping to use social media to continue to grow our following.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
Earlier on we talked about the band’s struggle to find a drummer. It was very hard finding a drummer for the band once they parted ways with their first drummer because they could not find anyone as dedicated as them. It would take about 4 months for the band to find Charles and finally fit the missing piece.
