We were lucky to catch up with Eleshin Lukmon recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Eleshin thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Learning the craft is often a unique journey from every creative – we’d love to hear about your journey and if knowing what you know now, you would have done anything differently to speed up the learning process.
I would like to believe I’ve alwasy be a photographer, having two sisters that loved taking pictures, i made professional images from our mobile phones and my dad portable camera, Although I Learnt photogrpahy from a friend tunred boss, I would seat on a stool behind him while he’s editing images he took and I asked a Lot of questions like everything. i challenged his methods and ask why that and not the alternative. I was just more inqusitive by the day
The best way to learning photgraohy for me is watching asking question that’s what worked for me. After almost a year of watching learning and liftinng in the studio i had seen how the art was made, how the magic brought beautiful images.
What skills do you think were most essential?
I;d say the most essentail skill is decision making, knowing or deciding what to do given the limited resources to gears and props and still having to deliver consistent results is a not a joke. yoiu have to build it and master it, funny how I did not know this while i was learning until i started to practice i realised how badass tixel was in knowing what to do everytime. now i can say I’ve come so fa myself
What obstacles stood in the way of learning more?
Top of my mind I would say accessiblity to gears, it was serious strain not having that very good lens. I’ve managed to create the beauty i do my limited resources and taking alot out of my creative bank to clear out my deficiency in gears

Eleshin, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’m Luqman a photographer and videographer passionate about capturing moments that tell compelling stories. My journey into this craft started with a deep curiosity about visual storytelling, I’ve always been fascinated by images or a well captured video can evoke emotions, inspire action, and preserve memories. Over time, this passion evolved into a career, allowing me to work with brands, individuals, and organizations to bring their visions to life.
I specialize in portrait and brand photography and videography, brand storytelling, and documentary work. Creating a cinematic video, or documenting impactful community initiatives, my goal is always to craft visuals that resonate. One of the biggest problems I solve for my clients is helping them translate their ideas into powerful visuals that not only look great but also communicate their message effectively. you would imagine that taking the pictures or shooting the videos are what makes the job hard. it’s understanding how to translate peoples idea from words into a movie.
What sets me apart is my ability to balance technical precision with creative storytelling. I don’t just shoot for fine media aesthetics, I focus on the emotions, the narrative, and the small details that make a project unique. offering my clients a cinematic look that enhances their stories.
One of the projects I’m most proud of was documenting Tolani’s crochet brand, Sun, Sand, and Sea collection. It was an incredible experience showcasing the artistry, craftsmanship, and storytelling behind her brand. Capturing the textures, colors, and intricate details of her work while conveying the essence of her vision was both a challenge and a rewarding experience. This project reinforced my passion for helping brands visually articulate their uniqueness.
For potential clients and followers, I want them to know that my work is about more than just visuals, it’s about storytelling with intention. Whether you’re a brand looking to establish a strong visual presence or an individual wanting to document a special moment, my approach is to bring your vision to life in a way that feels authentic and impactful.

Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?
Eat That Frog by Brian Tracy.
This book had a profound impact on me, particularly in overcoming procrastination and sharpening my focus. While it may not seem directly linked to entrepreneurship, the lessons I’ve learned from it have transformed the way I approach work and decision-making. It helped me shift from merely having ideas to actually executing them, ensuring that tasks don’t just remain thoughts or imaginations.
By learning to prioritize effectively and take immediate action on important tasks, I’ve been able to maximize productivity, not just in my creative work but also in managing projects and running my business efficiently.

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
One of the biggest lessons I had to unlearn was the idea that simply owning a camera would automatically lead to success. In the beginning, I believed that having a good camera was the key to making money in photography and videography. and i was eager to buy my first sony camera, But over time, I realized that true success in this craft goes far beyond just owning equipment.
I learned that investing in people, skills, and the right gear strategically is what truly makes the difference. Building relationships, understanding storytelling, knowing how to get it out there, also constantly improving my craft have been far more valuable than just having an expensive camera. Clients don’t just pay for the camera you own; they pay for your vision, creativity, and ability to bring their ideas to life.
This mindset shift helped me focus on continuous learning, networking, and refining my workflow instead of relying solely on my gear. That’s how you truly hack this craft and build a sustainable career in photography and videography.
