Elena Thornton and James, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s jump right into how you came up with the idea?
I noticed that people were reacting positively to photos on social media. I had a little camera that I used to take photos of my art, so I started bringing it with me to events. I started taking pictures at our Arizona Consortium for the Arts community organization events and at other charity, community and social events and would post them on social media. I just wanted to feature them and help them with visibility.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
People and organizations started to notice us and started thanking us for our photography and for spotlighting them. When their budget allows, they commission us for their events. Sometimes they need videos done and we do it as well. We are honored and proud that our community recognizes our efforts for over ten years of being Photos by Elena and Jim.
How’d you meet your business partner?
Originally, I took photos myself and when I was asked to do some big events, I needed help, so I asked my husband Jim to join me. He has been a photographer for a long time and had a nice camera.
Can you open up about how you funded your business?
When I was asked to do events, I shared the excitement with my husband Jim and he said: “Congratulations, though, you can’t take pictures at these events with your little camera” and he bought me my first DSLR.
