We were lucky to catch up with Elena Pollard recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Elena, thanks for joining us today. We love heartwarming stories – do you have a heartwarming story from your career to share?
I consider being part of someone’s healing journey an honor and a blessing. I often get to witness people who felt they had no hope, regain their health and be filled with vitality once again. I have watched burned out moms regain strength and go on to start a business doing something they are passionate about. I have seen children who could not speak gain the ability to look at their parents and utter a full sentence. I have seen people in daily pain become pain free and able to do what they love. When people decide to turn to natural health and allow all the wonderful things nature provides to support them in their healing process, the results are often nothing short of miraculous. I feel very fortunate to watch these miracles so often in my Homeopathy practice.

Elena, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
The first part of my career path was in biomedical autism research, mainly focusing on nutritional deficiencies and gut inflammation. During this career my son was injured by a medical product and no one could help him. I sought out a Homeopathic practitioner who worked with his type of injury, and she was able to help him regain his health. I was in awe of how gentle yet powerful this type of medicine was. At the time I was studying to become an herbalist and decided to switch paths and study Homeopathy. I have been trained at the most prestigious Homeopathic School in the Country, the American Medical College of Homeopathy, and have adjunct training in Homeopathic Detox Therapy and Human Chemistry Therapy from the International School for Human Chemistry. In my practice, Soleluna Homeopathy and Botanicals, I see clients for a variety of health issues, and have great success with gut issues, allergies, mental/emotional disturbances, mild to moderate autism, ADHD, fatigue/exhaustion, Migraines and more. I specialize in Homeopathic detox therapy and assist people in removing unwanted toxins that are impacting their health. As an adjunct to my Homeopathy practice, I am also the owner and formulator of Soleluna Botanicals, where I make wellness products ranging from BioBru Mushroom Coffee Alternative, BioRocks Mineral Salts, Fungi and Plant extracts, Elderberry syrup, and organic, oxygenated skincare products.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
I think as a small business owner you have to be willing stay the course even when you have ups and downs. You have to start with a product or business that serves a need, utilizes your strengths and passions, and has the potential to grow and evolve. When I first started Soleluna Botanicals, I was in a market in Arizona that was not very interested in natural health products. The first several years I made very little (just pocket money while working my full time job in research). When I moved to Colorado I debated about whether I should renew my business license here or give it up. I knew in my heart I had a great concept and a product line people wanted and needed. So I took a leap of faith and renewed my license, and found a niche market here in CO. My business has increased 600% in the past 5 years of living here. I stayed the course and its paid off tremendously. I had the right products and the demand, just wrong location. If your business is not succeeding just ask yourself what needs to change for me to find success.

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
I think when I first had my business I would not take criticism well. I thought it was synonymous with insult, which it is not. I think as a business owner you think you work so hard to put out a product/service that you feel a bit wounded by criticism. I learned over time to be grateful for constructive criticism as its the customers way of telling you how to make your business more successful. I have made many product reformulations based on customer feedback, and as a result I put out very high quality products with repeat customers. I think criticism is a way to learn about the market response to your products/services and adapt to make them more suited to a larger audience.
