Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Elena Martini . We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Elena , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Learning the craft is often a unique journey from every creative – we’d love to hear about your journey and if knowing what you know now, you would have done anything differently to speed up the learning process.
I’ve learned everything I know over time. I have done several artistic workshop over time but I didn’t attend the art academy. So , over the time , I continued to paint, draw and improve myself every time. Every times I finished a painting I always found something I would have done differently , and in this way I improved my art. Now, after years , I always continue to do better. Another thing it is fundamental is to study the ancients, without copying their works. I love arts and I always visits museum and exhibitions to get inspiration. I’m really lucky because I’m Italian and we have a lot of wonderful museums and cities of art.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Elena, and I have loved to paint since I was little. I literally paint everything, from canvas to wood, to skin. For three times, I participated to the World Bodypainting Festival in Klagenfurt in, Austria, in face painting category. I consider makeup an art form, just like painting. Actually, I participate in several art exhibitions in Italy. I have been paralyzed in my legs since birth, and painting it’s a way for me to see places that would otherwise be difficult to reach for me. My imagination allows me to be anywhere through my paintings and anyone through my makeup. The most important thing for me as an artist is to be free to maintain my style. When I paint commissioned paintings I want to be free to paint the subject as I want , I want to paint and draw a painting that convinces me. If I don’t like , or I’m not totally convinced about the project , i can’t paint a beautiful work. Except for some famous copy of Van Gogh and Klimt works, that I do for my parents , I also don’t accept commissions that involve copies of famous paintings. I want to do my art , and not to reproduce others.
Can you share your view on NFTs? (Note: this is for education/entertainment purposes only, readers should not construe this as advice)
About NFT i’m an old style artist. If you want art , I think you have to pay for it. I love showing my art on social media as well as in exhibitions, but in the last period I always receive requests to sell my art as nft and I think that this kind of request are nothing to do with the real art , or about the idea of art that I have.
Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative?
I started my social media sharing my makeup and face Bodypainting works and , especially for Halloween , I had success. For three times, I participated to the World Bodypainting Festival in Klagenfurt in, Austria, in face painting category. I consider makeup an art form, just like painting. at a certain point I wanted to try an art form that lasted over time and not just a few hours like body art. So I began to painting on canvas, because I had taken several courses as a child.
