Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Elena Magidson. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Elena, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
The most meaningful project I have worked on (and still work on) is the emulsion lift “dresses” that I create. The unique process of taking one of my photographs and turning it into a physical dress shape using an emulsion lift technique. This project has brought my personal meaning as an artist to a whole new level of purpose. It started my senior year of college at Savannah College of Art and Design, one of my final and best classes was Experimental Printing. with a wonderful teacher and artist, Craig Stevens. There I was introduced to the process of emulsion lifts, and took it beyond what I imagined possible. The project is meaningful to me because I use images that are special to me to create something that is one-of-a kind. The dresses capture my vulnerable side as well as showcase my passion for art.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I am a visual artist based in Savannah, Georgia. Working mostly with collage and photography, I aim to make art that indicates my unique style and originality. Imagery in my work involves bodies of water and the relationship they hold with other items placed in frame. I often incorporate elements of fashion and femininity. I am a recent graduate of Savannah College of Art and Design with a bachelor of fine art in photography and a minor in printmaking. I am eager to build a career centered around my art whether that is selling prints on my website or finding an artistic job that I can put my unique style into, or both. What sets me apart from others is my individual style – I always create art based off of my gut. I find and turn what others may consider ordinary into special, incredible expressions of art, and it has come naturally to me my whole life. I am proud of what fascinates me and I am going to show that no matter what, because that is what makes me me.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist/creative is being proud of my art at the end of every day. When I am having a hard time or struggling with something, I can always turn to the fact that I find comfort, peace and happiness in making art. It is a beacon of hope for me because I know my style is special and unique, no one else will create the same art as me. For me, being an artist is about celebrating individuality and having an outlet to express what my soul wants to express, and that is a beautiful thing.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
One goal driving my creative journey is to promote and sell my art because the feeling of knowing someone loves something I made is priceless. It inspires me and makes me feel proud to be myself. Knowing that even one person out there could have my art hanging on their wall is very rewarding.
