We were lucky to catch up with Elena Calderaro recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Elena , thanks for joining us today. Are you happier as a business owner? Do you sometimes think about what it would be like to just have a regular job?
Yes, When the pandemic started I found out I could do so much online, it was my time to reinvent myself and go back to doing what I love so much which is being a lawyer, that’s when I studied to become an Immigration Document Preparer, I know that starting my career here from scratch is complicated and takes a long time, but being an Immigration Document Preparer connects me with all the immigrants who want to fulfill their dreams

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers?
I am from Venezuela, where I grew up and graduated as a Lawyer 18 years ago with a master’s degree in civil and commercial. Due to the political difficulties that my country Venezuela is experiencing, like many of us “Venezuelan Citizen” led us to emigrate.
I came to the United States 8 years ago, with my husband and my son, our son was one year old when we came to this country, our first year we lived in Tampa Florida, it was a period of adaptation for the 3 of us, Tampa is a beautiful city, we loved it, we had to move to North Dakota, where we lived there for almost 3 years, our second son was born in North Dakota, North Dakota is the opposite to Florida, it’s very cold most of the year, later we had to move to Colorado.
And after the pandemic we decided to return to Florida, now we live in Sarasota Florida and we purchased our house.
I have been an Immigration Document Preparer for 3 years, and I continue to study and expand my knowledge, I became an IRS Certified Preparer, I also help my clients to prepare their Taxes, something so important. I am also a Florida Notary Public, I am currently studying to obtain the Life and Health Insurance Agent certification.
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
Definitely social media, Instagram + 2k and TikTok +8k
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
Emigrate and start from scratch, and try to continue doing what we are passionate about. But yes you can
