We recently connected with Elaine Vargas and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Elaine thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
Since I was younger I had creative outlets I would use to escape my reality. I was an anxious kid so my creativity allowed me to create a safe haven for myself. Whether it be a book I escaped into, a drawing I brought to life or anything I created with my hands, I always found a way out. Fast forwarding to now, after I graduated college I was completely burnt out and didn’t feel like I wanted to pursue anything I had studied any further. I was offered a nanny job after being unemployed for about half a year and I was my interactions with the child that helped me reconnect to that younger version of me. At this point I had been delving into spiritual practices and divination which involved crystals. I came across the wire wrap community on instagram and fell in love. I became determined to master the craft and see what I was capable of. Shortly into the craft I realized I was pretty good, so I made a page and launched my own website. I had no idea I would be where I am now with so many supporters across all my platforms! I have people from all over the United States and other countries that view and compliment my work. It is so heartwarming to know that I touch that many people’s souls with my craft and I cannot wait to see how far I take it.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
Since I answered most of these questions in the previous question, I will talk about my services and craft. I source crystals and gemstones from other small crystal suppliers of the instagram and Etsy community, as well as, the metal findings used to wrap and close the necklaces. I also wire wrap bracelets, rings and looking to expand to anklets and earrings in the near future. When people wear my jewelry I want them to feel beautiful, confident and important because they are. As a child I was so insecure in so many aspects of my life and now as an adult I feel that you can’t go through life hiding or avoiding being seen. You have to let yourself be seen, not care to be understood but demand you be respected. We all deserve to feel this way about ourselves. When I make each piece I’m riveting with passion, love and confidence in my craft and that’s what I want to portray and emit through my work.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
I am a child of immigrant Dominican parents who were never married and were old enough to be my grandparents! I didn’t receive much guidance in life when I was transitioning into a teen or an adult and have lived in the projects for over a decade of my life (still am). This held me back emotionally, financially and spiritually. How do you create a better life than was given to you? By wanting more, doing more and loving more. That’s what I planned to do and still am. Everyday Im scared but what I’m most afraid of is not seeing myself act on my full potential. I know that I have many gifts like my craft and business and I plan to use all the lemons given to me to make lemonade.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
I get to express myself when words don’t suffice.
