We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Elaine Thompson. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Elaine below.
Elaine, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What do you think matters most in terms of achieving success?
Let’s journey back to where it all began. When I was young, My father took away the television from my siblings and I, leaving us with only books to keep us entertained. It was tough not being able to participate in the exchanges about the different television shows at school however, it forced me to utilize my imagination and fueled my love of words. It was a childhood dream to become a writer, a screenwriter to be exact but I do not believe I would have minded journalism either. In my last year of senior high school, a guidance counsellor advised strongly against a career in writing. I ended up in the banking industry where I spent ten long years. Then something strange happened — I started coughing especially whenever I was near money! A year passed and the cough did not go away. In fact, it became more severe. Every test and scan I took was normal. The doctor’s diagnosis was an odd one. He told me I had developed an allergy to the money! The company didn’t want to but were forced to let me go because of this. This failure pushed me into deeper waters forcing me to evolve and become who I am today.
I had been freelance writing off and on for about six years before this. There was just never enough time to write with a job that was extremely demanding. I decided to start Authors in Action. At first I tried selling a self-publishing course. I worked extremely hard on the course but none sold! This forced me to research and dig deep to find other alternatives. This is when I discovered ghostwriting. I was fascinated. I decided to give it a go. I landed my first client within that same week. And guess what? That client’s book became an Amazon bestseller!
Sometimes life can feel like a roller coaster. Through all the ups and downs, one thing remains clear: you can’t be afraid to fail and you must keep going. This is what it takes to be successful. Success to me goes beyond money and fame. It’s about doing what you were born to do and being great at it. Writing has always been my true calling. I’m happiest when I’m creating, building stories from words that earn their way onto the page. That’s what I was meant to do and I’m grateful to have finally fully embraced that.
Elaine, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My love for writing began with a deep passion for storytelling and capturing the essence of words. My journey unfolded through a series of unique experiences, that led me to discover my talent for crafting exceptional pieces that amplify the voices and experiences of others. We may not all have the talent of writing but we all have a story unique to our journey. I see my pen as a tool, one that bridges the connection between the journeys of my clients and the world. I specialize in producing a wide range of content, including books, articles, and speeches, on behalf of my clients. From memoirs to business guides, I have had the privilege of collaborating with many individuals from diverse backgrounds and industries to construct compelling narratives that resonate with their audiences.
The primary problem I solve for my clients is the challenge of transforming their ideas into polished, publication ready works without sacrificing their unique voice or message. By serving as a silent collaborator behind the scenes, I enable my clients to share their stories and expertise with the world while they maintain full credit and ownership.
What sets me apart from others in my field is my process. My process is one that takes away the headache that usually comes with content creation from start to finish. I take pride in elevating and delivering beyond expectations so that it goes further than created content. Their book, article, or speech is an extension of their legacy.
I highly value the connections I forge when working with my clients and the impact our collaborations have had on their lives. Whether it’s helping a first time author create a legacy that will last beyond a lifetime or assisting a business leader articulate their vision through a compelling speech or article, I am grateful to know that my work will indeed reach others even though I am behind the scenes.
Whether you are an aspiring author, business professional, or anyone in need of a skilled wordsmith, I am here to help you create an extension of your legacy and make your mark in the world through content creation.

Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
The best source of new clients for me has been word of mouth. My work speaks for itself and once a client has fallen in love with their results they usually spread the word! I’m a firm believer in the phrase ‘Be so good they cannot ignore you!’. I’m not certain who said this quote but this is so true! This is why I actively seek to become better at my craft daily.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
Authors in Action first started as a self-publishing course. I spent over six month creating and perfecting that course. I finally launched and sold zero courses! This forced my to find other alternatives. This pivot led me to discover ghostwriting. It turns out no one wanted to learn how to self-publish but there is a target market of those who would like to have their content written. We live in a fast-paced world where we have fast food, delivery services, and Uber. I guess I’m like the Uber of content creation!
