We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Elaina Ellis. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Elaina below.
Hi Elaina, thanks for joining us today. Let’s start with a story that highlights an important way in which your brand diverges from the industry standard.
One thing that sets me apart from the industry standard is my commitment to being a jack of all trades. I don’t believe in limiting myself to just one craft. With a background in fine arts, I’ve naturally developed the ability to work across multiple mediums—each one informing and enriching the other. I can draw, shoot film photography using vintage cameras, and confidently navigate modern video editing software. I thrive in versatility because I believe that the more knowledge and skills I acquire, the more value I can offer to my clients. I don’t like being pigeonholed into a single lane—creativity doesn’t have borders, and neither should I.
Elaina, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am the creative mind and heart behind Elaina Ellis Photo. I work in the wonderful wild world of photography and videography—where I deep dive into the creative weeds to tell honest, intentional stories. My journey started in the most unexpected way: I found a vintage film camera tucked away in my dad’s dresser. I became completely obsessed with the click of the shutter—silly, I know, but it was magic to me. That curiosity led me to take a photography class in high school, and I’ve been hooked ever since.
I specialize primarily in Sports/Live Concerts & wedding photography, and every single client I’ve had has come to me through word of mouth—something I take a lot of pride in. It tells me that people feel a connection, not just with my work, but with the experience I offer. When I’m behind the lens, I’m not just snapping pictures; I’m being vulnerable, honest, and fully present with the people I’m photographing. That kind of connection is everything to me.
What sets my brand apart is my absolute commitment to staying true to my own style. I don’t bend or reshape my creative voice to fit trends or outside expectations. My work reflects who I am, and I believe that authenticity is what resonates most with the people who hire me.
Two standout moments in my career so far: stepping onto the field at Camden Yards in my early 20s to photograph the Baltimore Orioles, and capturing Dirty Honey live on stage. Those moments reminded me just how far a little curiosity and a camera can take you.
At the end of the day, I want people to know that I’m here to give them my absolute best—every time. Whether it’s a wedding, a concert, or an intimate portrait session, my goal is to tell your story with heart, grit, and a whole lot of love.
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
You have to get out there and meet people. You have to be open, honest and upfront about what you want to provide while giving the other individual the breathing room to understand what services you are offering them. All of my business has been via word of mouth and it’s never let me down. I make a connection with everyone I meet because I truly care about their story and who they are. That comes across when you meet me.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
Freedom of expression. No more, no less.
