We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Ekta Yadav. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Ekta below.
Alright, Ekta thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Can you share a story with us from back when you were an intern or apprentice? Maybe it’s a story that illustrates an important lesson you learned or maybe it’s a just a story that makes you laugh (or cry)?
I remember one year I was trying to finish / bachelors and a minor faster than anticipated in undergrad and so I took on over 22 credit hours per semester, plus working full time at P&G on their TAMPAX R&D team and it was just a crazy year. I feel like it was those moments in time where you got super human powers for a brief period.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’m a nerd to put it simply. I love everything science and that’s really what determined my path into medicine. I was very blessed because my dad was always someone who gave me mental space to be curious and also provided tools I may use such as the right books etc so my overall inquisitive need and innate curiosity was always getting validated by him. I think they led me down the path I’m on now for sure because I genuinely follow whatever sparks My interest and I stick it out because I genuinely believe that half of scientific or any discovery is just a “gut feeling.”
Do you think you’d choose a different profession or specialty if you were starting now?
I would always pick medicine in full transparency. Medicine primes a person’s brain towards the ultimate level of logical thinking and even that, on the spot. I believe very strongly in the benefits of having a science oriented foundation or education because of this type of neuronal plasticity that occurs after years of rigorous course work or having to figure out complex problems. It’s a blessing to learn from what’s around us. That’s science.
Have you ever had to pivot?
Yea it was a year of having to take a leave of absence from school. However, it was far from a vacation. I wanted to make money and I was sick of studying every day without ever seeing a light at the end of the tunnel. So I took a year, moved to a new city, and started a job completely different from my training: Data Modeling. I have always loved computer programming and I decided why not read some books, get certified and just get a legit job for a year and chill. So I got the IBM certifications and found a 6 figure desk job modeling the data of a Fortune 500 company. It was fun and when it got boring I went right back to medicine lol.
