We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Ekaterina Denisova a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Ekaterina, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
When I was 12 years old, I went to art school for the first time—just to accompany my friend and because the first lesson was free:) But from that moment, I was hooked. I joined art school soon after, and within a few months, I knew this was what I wanted to do in life. So, I went ahead and earned a full scholarship to art college, where I completed my Master’s in Fine Art with excellence. I’m very grateful to my parents for always supporting me.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I am a watercolor artist deeply inspired by nature, beautiful places, and the emotions they evoke. My work is a fusion of travel, nature, and personal experiences, capturing not just the visual essence of a place but also its atmosphere and spirit. I have painted in breathtaking locations such as Italy, India, Switzerland, and Siberia, allowing each destination to shape my artistic expression. I especially enjoy painting en plein air, immersing myself in the landscape and capturing the fleeting light and energy of a scene in the moment.
Specializing in watercolor, I offer original artworks, fine art prints, and designed merchandise such as tote bags and stickers. I also teach watercolor, sharing the magic of this fluid and transparent medium with others. Teaching at the Summer Arts Academy in Canajoharie, NY, was a deeply fulfilling experience, and I continue to guide students through private lessons.
Beyond selling my artwork online through my Etsy shop, I actively participate in art festivals and craft markets, connecting with art lovers and fellow creators. I have also had the opportunity to showcase my work in solo exhibitions, including at the Mayor’s Office in Frisco City Hall in 2024 and at Gallery 8680 in Frisco in both 2022 and 2023.
Meditation has been a part of my life for over 30 years, and it definitely has a big impact on my artistic journey. It helps me paint with mindfulness, capturing not just a scene but a sense of peace and presence. I want my paintings to invite viewers to slow down, appreciate beauty, and feel calm in the moment.
Whether it’s a quiet landscape, vibrant flowers, or a scene full of culture, my goal is to share the inspiration I felt while painting. I hope my art encourages others to see the world’s beauty, embrace creativity, and maybe even start painting themselves.

Looking back, are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
One resource I wish I had discovered earlier is local art communities. My artist friend introduced me to them about four years ago, and they’ve been amazing. It’s a great way to connect with like-minded creatives, share ideas, and find opportunities to exhibit your work. Being part of a supportive network has made a huge difference in my journey

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
For me the most rewarding part of being an artist is the ability to share emotions and stories through my paintings. I love capturing the beauty of a moment and seeing how it resonates with others—whether it brings them joy, nostalgia, or a sense of peace. Knowing that my art can inspire or connect with someone on a deeper level is incredibly fulfilling.
