We were lucky to catch up with Ejiro Ojameruaye recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Ejiro thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to hear the backstory of how you established your own practice.
I had been a nurse for about 10yrs when i decided to go back to get an advanced practice degree in Nursing. My goal with my degree as a nurse practitioner was to have my practice where I help my client know the root cause of their chronic and acute illness or symptoms and tailor a treatment specific to them. As soon as I graduated I started working on the foundations and preparing for year 2020 to start my journey into Functional Medicine. I had set to start my practice May 2020 and spent 2019 preparing and planning. Some of the things I did to prepare included lengthy hours of education, training and hands on from professionals and leaders in the areas of services I will be providing.
Then March 2020 comes along and COVID happened. I was torn between moving forward as planned or holding off till things got better. I chose to go ahead with the plan of starting my practice during a pandemic because of the services I provided. I knew people would benefit from my services because i understand the science of viruses and the immune system. I have many years of knowledge in Intravenous (IV) therapy and know the importance of IV therapy in helping alleviate symptom. I knew the science and research to back up the reason why IV vitamins, minerals and nutrients can be helpful when a virus invades your cells and i was determined to educate my clients.
Covid was the biggest challenge I had with setting up my practice. From the worries of not having clients walk through my door for services to the fear of potentially exposing myself and kids to this virus while operating my business. These worries were constantly on my mind the first year of opening.
I am happy to say the worries are less these days. I have innovative medical therapies and treatments that I utilize daily in my practice to help my clients and myself minimize severity of certain viral infections. Knowing that my services i provide can help someone suffering with their symptoms be able to suffer less in a short period of time, gives me so much satisfaction and re-assurance I did the right thing sticking with my goals to start my practice.
Two years later and looking back, there is nothing I would have done differently. I am proud of myself for sticking to my plan and not quitting. Most importantly my clients are grateful I am available for their healthcare needs, advice and guidance.
Advice to young professionals in general is not lose focus on what you have set to do. There maybe some curve balls but remain focus and confident in your plans and goals.

Ejiro, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My Name is Ejiro (pronounced e-JEE-row). I am a Nurse Practitioner, practicing in Arizona. I have been in nursing since age 19 and have continued to advance my education to broaden my role. During my short 15 years as a nurse, I have seen a one size fits all approach in health care. This has made me want to practice medicine differently. As a nurse practitioner in Arizona, I have the opportunity to do so with out any restriction. Functional Medicine affords me the ability to look at my patients deeper and treat them specifically because i know what worked for one person make not work for the other because of different factors. The name of my practice is Modernized Wellness located in Scottsdale, Arizona. Modernized because I want to be able to provide my clients up and coming cutting edge services to help optimize their health. I am able to do so with some of my services right now.
Some of the services I provided include Medically supervised personalized weight loss , Intravenous (IV) therapy to provide Vitamins, Minerals, Amino acids, medicines and nutrients directly into the blood stream for 100% absorption. I also help men that suffer with bothersome and debilitating symptoms of male hormonal deficiency optimize their hormones to lose weight and live happier lives and save their relationships.
Peptide therapy is cutting edge innovative modality i utilize in my practice to help my clients improve symptoms from hormonal imbalances to weight loss to improving physical performance and recovery. Lastly I have spent the last year integrating aesthetic services to my practice as i have learned this is also an important part of overall health and wellness. Our skin is part of our immune system and taking care of it is as important as taking care of our internal organs. I enjoy discussing and performing Platelet rich plasma (PRP) with microneeding services as this is a wonderful innovative way of rejuvenating the skin using your own body healing capability. I also love introducing new clients to neurotoxins AKA Botox. Neurotoxins have gotten a bad rep in the past and is usually associated with unnatural. A sit down with me during a consultation would change the negative associations and would shine a better light on neurotoxin wonderful benefits. Here is a tease, did you know Botox can help your acne or dry eczema patches?
My goal is to get my clients to look good on the inside and outside and these services i provide help me get to my goal.
I am currently enrolled in Fellowship programs to get to my goal of being a full time Functional Medicine Practitioner in the next 3 years and be able to treat and manage more serious and chronically ill clients .

Putting training and knowledge aside, what else do you think really matters in terms of succeeding in your field?
Passion and Drive! When you have a strong love and desire and compelling drive for what you do or about to embark on doing it helps push you further. When obstacles or naysayers emerge you are able to push through and get to your goal or target.
If you could go back in time, do you think you would have chosen a different profession or specialty?
Yes I would chose my profession over and over again. I can see myself being in other professions but i am not sure i would love them as much as I do Nursing. There is so much versatility in Nursing. practice. I have worked in so many different departments, hospitals, units and clinics and have gathered so much knowledge. I don’t feel like i need to remain in one area for too long, i can try a different specialty to broaden my knowledge.
