We were lucky to catch up with Ejaye recently and have shared our conversation below.
Ejaye, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. How did you learn to do what you do? Knowing what you know now, what could you have done to speed up your learning process? What skills do you think were most essential? What obstacles stood in the way of learning more?
Im pretty much self taught, I had some help learning music theory and the basics of music creation from my brother Filth. He helped a lot. To speed it up I should have listened to him more and applied myself a little harder at the beginning for sure haha. The most essential was definitely establishing groove and bounce, i think it goes a long way with making unique beats. the obstacles that stood in the way were school and working for sure and trying to balance making music and everything else in life.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I came into the industry as a rapper before a producer. That’s why my name is “ejayeraps“ and not like “ejayetherapper” hahaha. I fell in love with making beats when learning ableton to teach my brother Filth a new DAW he should use to make beats on. After that the rest was history. I dedicated my life to the craft, I offer high quality multi-genre and custom beats. with a fast turn around time. I also offer recording and mixing services in my area, I take pride in my recording and mixing because at the end of the day I love music and I think the process of making a beat from scratch the pulling the beat up in ProTools or Logic and creating a great song from scratch is the greatest feeling to me. I make sure I give the best input I while giving the artist full control of the song while making sure they’re comfortable and confident in the booth. I show them i’m invested into the music and I think that separates me from most engineers because I care about given artist the best experience when in the studio with me. Mixing songs is a passion to me and i love it so when a new song ends up on my plate my turn around time is fairly quick.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most recording would definitely be all the connections and friendships i’ve made while making music. Every connection I make is genuine and it makes making music so much easier and more fun.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
My only goal is to wake up and do what i love everyday and to know my family is straight.
