We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Eilyn Jimenez. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Eilyn below.
Eilyn, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Risk taking is something we’re really interested in and we’d love to hear the story of a risk you’ve taken.
Throughout my career, a lot of times the “big risks” didn’t seem so big until I actually took them. Early on in my career, I submitted a proposal for a 200 unit multi-family residential project. I was up against two other designers and had never completed a project of this size. We were a super small team at this time and devoted all of our manpower to this project. The hard work paid off and we won! Looking back, I am in awe of myself and my team for taking the risk and trusting ourselves to compete for such a prestigious project without any comparable experience. This project has since opened so many doors for Sire Design.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am the founder and creative director of Sire Design, a Miami-based international interior design studio, specializing in realizing clients’ visions through bold and timeless residential, development, and commercial interior design. From a young age, I saw myself as a future attorney and a judge, yet I spent most of my time redesigning and rearranging my room — constantly moving around furniture and decor. Growing up with a father in development (and now, a husband also in the design industry whom I met at Art Basel), architecture and design have always been part of my life. It was not until the agr of 16 years of that I realized interior design was my fated career path. I studied business at the Universidad Latina de Costa Rica, but during my second year, I discovered the architecture department, fell in love with the program’s offerings and switched study focus. Contrary to what my professors often said, I felt passionate that interior design and architecture should be in constant harmony. This experience and philosophy inform much of my work to this day.
Today, I am proud of a lot of things. Most of all, the team I have created. When I first promoted my interior design services online, I charged $99 for a two-hour consultation. Gradually, my client list grew through word-of-mouth, and at just 23 years old, I was selected amongst local top interior design firms for an E! Channel segment to redesign a home for Macklemore’s mother-in-law. Sire Design’s first project brought in roughly $2,000. Our firm now takes on projects with revenues up to $1,000,000. We have become a reputable name in the industry and we would not be so well respected if it wasnt for everyone at Sire Design – we are known for our “fem-pire” that constantly produces bespoke projects. I love that when we walk into a room we are collectively recognized as the Sire Design team.
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
We have always remained authentic while keeping our clients’ needs a top priority. At our core, we understand the importance of maintaining organization and attention to detail. With all of our employees keeping this in mind, we have been able to grow tremendously in the last few years. Our clients trust in our process, allowing us to guide them through their projects’ journey. This tailored approach to each client and project has led to an immense amount of projects and developments.

Be authentic and genuine – people want to see authenticity and something to relate to. Interior design is a connection-based industry and people will support you if they personally like you. We have learned, over the years, that the best partnerships are those where everyone across all teams is aligned. When you produce great work and surround yourself with supporters, people will want to encourage you and share your successes because they are genuinely rooting for you.
