We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Eileen a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Eileen, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. It’s always helpful to hear about times when someone’s had to take a risk – how did they think through the decision, why did they take the risk, and what ended up happening. We’d love to hear about a risk you’ve taken.
Thank you for having me! Honestly, you have to take risks in life, otherwise, you’ll never know what you’re truly capable of. That said, you can’t step out on faith and stand on fear, either. Starting my company was a major risk, as we didn’t have any capital or resources like major labels. Being able to have full creative control and artistic freedom made it worth it.
Eileen, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’m an R&B recording artist, songwriter, and producer. R&B music was a strong staple in my childhood. Growing up to the sounds of Billie Holiday, The Pointer Sisters, Michael Jackson, Janet Jackson, Toni Braxton, and a lot of other household names, everything about their music fueled my desire to want to be like them, to create music as they did and to be a voice that people loved.
I think what sets me apart musically is my undying passion for being a part of music in any way, shape, or form. Many artists can have a love for music and not see themselves beyond the center stage, which is completely fine! For me, however, as much as I love to sing, I don’t need to in order to be happy musically. I’m content writing for others because I’m still bringing new music to life. I’m fine being behind the scenes and I’m even happy to handle all business aspects so the artist can focus on making music. Music is my passion, and I can’t imagine my life without it in some capacity.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
Hearing someone sing one of my songs! Also, having a fan tell me how much one of my songs has impacted them. I don’t need to capture the world with my music…I just need to touch one heart.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
Being a recording artist was always a childhood goal…a dream… and I can honestly say that I followed it. That little girl still fuels me and drives me to be the best version of myself, the best voice I can be, and to create the music I love.
