Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Ehizogie Ero-Brown. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Ehizogie, appreciate you joining us today. How did you come up with the idea for your business?

One particular day, my son was crying, I had him in my arms, (he was two and a half years old at the time), I was unable to reach a book quick enough to comfort him, I resorted to telling him a story in an effort to soothe him. That impromptu story centered around the boundless love I have for him, expressed through the things he enjoys and loves. This heartfelt moment marked the inception of my initial book. My ability to craft children’s books stems from a genuine passion for working with kids, a love that has been nurtured over time. Now, with a whole series awaiting publication, I am excited to share these stories that blend imagination, STEM, love, and the joy of connecting with young minds.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.

I am a children’s book author, and my journey into writing was inspired by my son, whom I homeschooled for a period. During time homeschooling, reading was a central part of our daily routine—a tradition that continues to this day. Whether at breakfast, lunch, dinner, or bedtime, we would read lovey, nice and funny books. One particular day, my son was crying, I had him in my arms, (he was two and a half years old at the time), I was unable to reach a book quick enough to comfort him, I resorted to telling him a story in an effort to soothe him. We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.

The journey to bringing my book to life was undoubtedly filled with twists and turns! Faced with the crucial decision of choosing between a traditional publishing house and the self-publishing route, I delved into extensive research before concluding that self-publishing aligned best with my vision. My initial attempt began with Barnes and Noble, and I subsequently explored Amazon and Lulu Publishing. However, each platform presented unique specifications and requirements, and frustratingly, they didn’t seamlessly distribute to one another or to other platforms.

Determined to expand the reach of my book, I embarked on a quest to understand aggregators and how to navigate these intricate pathways. Fortunately, SCORE, an SBA affiliate, assigned me a mentor whose guidance proved to be invaluable. Drawing upon her wealth of experience as a published author, she skillfully helped me overcome the roadblocks that surfaced along the way.

In the process of recording the audiobook with my son, a new set of challenges emerged. Technical hurdles, such as deciphering the correct format, managing audio levels, and grappling with background noise during recording, added complexity to the project. Despite these obstacles, the collaborative effort with my son and the mentorship received paved the way for a richer and more rewarding creative journey.”
I am proud of the series I have created and while I am out meeting people wh have rea my book and are just so sweet in telling me how much they have enjoyed reading my book, asking when the next in the series comes out. I am proud that people have allowed me into their homes, schools and community.

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?

I was always afraid to take risk and therefore never tried any opportunities. i stayed in the comfort of my job. I’ve come to understand the significance of embracing risks—a perspective I regard as the chosen adventures in life’s journey. Anchored in my faith as a believer in God, I find solace in the divine promise of protection. While it may sound audacious, this belief gives me unwavering confidence in undertaking risks.
Reflecting on my life, one significant risk stands out: relocating from the United Kingdom to Bahrain in the Middle East before I met my husband. It was a leap into the unknown, surrounded by unfamiliar faces, and understandably, my family and friends were concerned. Yet, guided by the assurance of God’s protection, I stepped into the uncertainty with confidence.
Not all risks I encounter are met with the same level of certainty, but the teachings of the Bible serve as a compass, nudging me to take bold steps. Writing a book, for instance, has been a substantial risk—a venture demanding substantial investments in terms of money, time, and heartfelt dedication. Yet, each morning, I consciously choose to embark on this risky journey, driven by the belief that the potential for growth and fulfillment lies in embracing the adventure.
It’s a daily commitment to face the unknown, acknowledging that without taking chances, one may miss out on life’s greatest adventures and the countless opportunities that may slip away unnoticed.
